On October 2, at Phđau-Pên Pagoda (Vien Binh Commune, Tran De District), the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Soc Trang province organized a celebration of the Sene Dolta festival of the Khmer people in 2024.

Attending the Sene Dolta celebration were leaders of Soc Trang province, dignitaries, monks, pagoda management board, and many Khmer Buddhists.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Van Lau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, said that the Sene Dolta ceremony, also known as the ancestor worship ceremony, is a traditional ceremony of the Khmer people that deeply demonstrates the morality of "remembering the source of water".
Although life today has changed a lot, the Sene Dolta festival of the Khmer people is still preserved and promoted, bearing deep humanity and moral educational significance, and is a unique feature of the Khmer people, contributing to the diversity and uniqueness of Vietnamese culture.
Regarding the socio-economic situation, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Tran Van Lau said that in the first 9 months of 2024, the province's growth rate is estimated at 6.52% (1.2 times higher than the same period); budget revenue reached nearly 4,113 billion VND (14.7% higher than the same period); rural infrastructure is increasingly improved; the whole province has 70/80 communes recognized as meeting new rural standards (of which, there are 34 communes in ethnic minority areas, accounting for nearly 50%) and 4 districts and towns meeting new rural standards. To achieve the above results, there is great support and contribution from all walks of life, including the Khmer people in the province.
Poverty reduction work has been directed and implemented by Party committees and authorities at all levels. By the end of 2023, the whole province had 8,521 poor households (of which Khmer poor households accounted for 4%). The average poverty rate decreased by 2% per year, while the Khmer poor household rate decreased by 3% per year.
Social security policies have been fully and promptly implemented. In the period of 2021-2024 alone, the whole province has mobilized support to build 5,248 houses for poor households, with a total cost of about 280 billion VND (1,876 poor Khmer households were supported). Thereby, helping poor households have a stable place to live, feel secure in working, producing, developing the economy, and escaping poverty sustainably.
The work of developing party members, planning, arranging and using Khmer cadres at all levels continues to be carried out effectively. The province currently has 8,346 Khmer party members (accounting for 16.7% of the Party Committee's members), many of whom have held and are holding key leadership positions in the political system from the province to the grassroots level.
With the theme "Solidarity - Innovation - Integration and Development" of the Sene Dolta Festival 2024, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Tran Van Lau called on: Khmer people to continue to trust in the leadership of Party committees at all levels, the direction and administration of local authorities; create favorable conditions for key projects in the province to be implemented smoothly, such as: Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, Dai Ngai bridge project, Tran De deep-water port, East - West economic development axis...; promote the great solidarity bloc, actively accompany, support, and contribute to the development of the province to become more and more prosperous.
On this occasion, the organizing committee presented 10 gifts to Khmer families who are working hard to escape poverty; 10 solidarity houses to households with housing difficulties; 50 scholarships (each worth 1 million VND) and 20 bicycles to Khmer children who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies.
