Speaking at the event, a representative of the Indian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City said that India is one of the largest and most diverse film industries. Every year, India produces thousands of films. Because of its cultural and linguistic diversity, Indian cinema always presents a colorful picture.
Indian films not only convey the long-standing traditional cultural values of the Indian people, but are also highly entertaining. Besides, they also express issues of social norms, as well as a rich artistic heritage.
In response, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, reiterated the influence of Indian cinema in Vietnam, including films that were once phenomena, typically Bride 8 years old, which has been broadcast on the small screen for many years.

Mr. Hoi also said that Ho Chi Minh City currently has many conditions to develop the cultural industry in general, especially cinema. "In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City organized the first international film festival. Last March, the city also submitted a dossier to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema. We know that the Indian city of Mumbai has also joined this network. Therefore, this Indian Film Festival is not only an opportunity for exchanges on cinema and film production, but also an opportunity for the city to learn from experience on how to join the UNESCO network," Mr. Hoi added.
At the opening ceremony, the organizers also screened the film Live Only Once . This is a film by director Zoya Akhtar about three friends: Arjun, Kabir, and Imraan, who have been close and attached to each other since childhood.
They planned to go to Spain as a final trip for single men. However, this trip also turned out to be a turning point that changed their outlook on life, worldview, and life.

This year's festival will also screen two other works: RRR ( Freedom Roar ) and Female Wrestler .
RRR is an action drama film directed by SS Rajamouli. The film is set in 1920s India under colonial rule, telling a fictional story inspired by two real revolutionaries Rama Raju and Komaram Bheem.
From strangers, the two were connected by loyalty and historical circumstances, together honoring the values of friendship, sacrifice, patriotism and the desire for national liberation.
The song " Naatu Naatu " in the film won the Best Original Song award at the 2023 Oscars along with many other domestic and international awards.

The movie will be shown at 3:30 p.m. on March 29.
The remaining work is the movie Female Wrestler . The film is a biographical, drama-sports film based on the real life character of a former Indian wrestler named Mahavir Singh Phogat. The film depicts his journey of training his two daughters to become wrestlers like him, competing internationally and achieving success, despite prejudices from society.
This is also the first Indian film to gross over $300 million worldwide. The film will be shown at 3:30 p.m. on March 30.
