(Baohatinh.vn) - With a selling price of 300,000 - 320,000 VND/quintal of snails, Ha Tinh fishermen can earn from 1.5 to 3 million VND/day thanks to actively pulling nets to harvest "sea blessings".

For about a week now, in the coastal areas of Thach Van, Thach Tri, and Thach Hai communes (Ha Tinh city), many people have gone to the sea to catch snails and shrimp. Shrimp snails (locally called "slipper snails") are often purchased by traders to feed lobsters. Currently, the price of shrimp snails ranges from 300,000 - 320,000 VND/quintal. According to fishermen, in mid-March and early April every year, tons of snails often wash ashore, so people take advantage of the opportunity to catch them to earn extra income. Mr. Vo Cong Thong (Duc Phu TDP, Thach Trung Ward, Ha Tinh City) shared: " We formed a group of 5 people including strong and skilled fishermen to catch snails. Over the past month, the group has traveled through many sea areas in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. In the past week, we have focused on fishing in Ha Tinh sea areas such as: Thach Tri, Thach Hoi, Cam Nhuong... The snail fishing season usually peaks in March, lasting about 1-2 months, so we take advantage of every day to catch a lot of snails".
To catch this type of snail, fishermen must prepare a homemade rake 1.2-1.5m high, with a stainless steel rake attached to the bottom and a mesh bag about 5m long to hold the snails.
" From early morning, we went to the sea to rake snails. To rake a lot, we had to go backwards, continuously pushing the rake so that the snails would fall into the net, the smaller sand would fall out. Being familiar with the sea, raking snails was not too hard, every 20-30 minutes I could rake 3-4 nests of snails and shrimps " - Ms. Ngo Thi Tu (Toan Thang village, Thach Tri commune, Ha Tinh city) shared. After the net is full of snails, fishermen will pull them to shore and pour them into sacks weighing 5-7 quintals/bag to facilitate the purchase of traders. It is the peak season when large quantities of snails are washed ashore, so fishermen stay at sea from early morning until about 3-4 pm. On average, each day, a fisherman can harvest 2-3 quintals of snails, and for strong, skilled people with a good catch of snails, they can harvest 5-6 quintals/day.
Mr. Vo Cong Sam (Duc Phu Residential Group, Thach Trung Ward, Ha Tinh City) shared: " There are many snails drifting to the shore, so we work throughlunch, without any time to rest. Although it is hard, at the end of the day we can earn 1-2 million VND, so we are very excited ."
Batches of snails are continuously brought to shore... ... carrying the joy of fishing of fishermen in coastal areas.
Taking advantage of their lunch break, fishermen have light meals to save time and get ready for new hauls.
