Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that the Department has proposed a Lunar New Year holiday for students from January 23 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 24 to January 5).
If the proposal is approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, students will have 11 days off for the Lunar New Year, an increase of 2 days according to the 2024-2025 school year schedule that the City People's Committee previously issued.
"The Department of Education and Training increased the Tet holiday by 2 days to facilitate students and parents' travel for Tet without affecting the school year schedule," said Mr. Hieu.

Previously, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City was stated in the 2024-2025 school year plan, from the beginning of September. Students will have 9 days off for Tet, from January 25 to February 2, 2025 (December 26 to January 5).
However, many parents believe that such a short break is inconvenient for families who want to visit relatives far away or go on vacation. In previous years, the Tet holiday for students in Ho Chi Minh City usually lasted from 12 to 16 days.
At the regular press conference on the socio-economic situation of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of December 5, Ms. Nguyen Minh Bach Lan, Deputy Chief of Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the difficulty in arranging the Tet holiday schedule for students is to ensure 35 weeks of actual study in a year, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. The new school year starts on September 5 and ends before May 31, plus other holidays. Therefore, the 9-day Tet holiday is close to the school year time frame.
However, in response to parents' wishes, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has based on the actual situation and plans of schools to propose adjusting the Tet holiday schedule.
