Right after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, 9th grade students and schools focused on reviewing and preparing knowledge for the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam.
After the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025, 9th graders will prepare to take the entrance exam to public high schools. This year, the exam has many big changes.
According to Circular 30/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training on the regulations for secondary school and high school admissions, the entrance exam for grade 10 includes: Math, Literature and a third subject or test selected by the Department of Education and Training. The third subject is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.
Before the important exam, right after Tet holiday, 9th grade students have planned to review and focus on preparing knowledge in the final stage.
Nguyen Phuong Chi, a 9th grade student at Thanh Tri Secondary School (Hoang Mai District) said that although she had prepared herself mentally and made efforts to study, she was very worried because it was very difficult to get into a 10th grade public school in Hanoi, with the enrollment quota each year accounting for only over 60% of the total number of 9th grade students.
To review effectively while still maintaining the Tet spirit, Chi has created a suitable personal schedule during the 9-day Tet holiday. Today (February 3), the first day back to school, Chi said: "I did not neglect or play but immediately got back to studying. I hope the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will soon announce the third exam subject right after this Tet holiday so that we can proactively review and prepare mentally for the exam."
Ms. Pham Anh Hong, a parent of a student at Phuc Xa High School (Ba Dinh District) said that this year's Lunar New Year holiday, the whole family postponed their regular trip to prioritize time for their eldest son, who is in 9th grade, to focus on studying for the 10th grade entrance exam.
Compared to the 2024 exam, the number of subjects for this year's exam is unified to 3 subjects. This will avoid the current situation where each locality has its own number of subjects. However, this does not reduce the concerns of students and parents, because the 3rd subject has not been announced by the locality.
“On the first day back to school after Tet holiday, the children will have many group activities. It is necessary to restart after a long break, but I also remind my children to focus on studying,” said Ms. Hong.
According to Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Me Linh District, Duong Thi Thanh Tu, 2025 is a very important year for 9th grade students, because it is the first year they participate in the 10th grade entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program with many innovations.
Therefore, schools have proactively planned for students to stabilize their routine and get back to studying right after Tet holiday. The Department of Education and Training of Me Linh district has requested 20 secondary schools in the district to strengthen management measures, grasp the thoughts and activities of students inside and outside the school, and be ready to support them when necessary.
According to information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, based on Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, the Department is urgently developing a plan to enroll students in the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including grade 10, to submit to the City People's Committee for approval. Hanoi's grade 10 enrollment method ensures compliance with regulations, is suitable for the actual situation, does not cause stress for students, and ensures the quality of teaching and learning.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong noted that based on the structure and format of the 10th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year issued by the Department, schools will build a question bank for testing and assessment according to the requirements of the subject and organize for students to practice thoroughly.
Particularly for Literature, schools should avoid using texts and excerpts from textbooks as testing and assessment materials to overcome the phenomenon of students memorizing mechanically.
According to reports from the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns and schools, during the Tet holiday, all units and schools in the city ensured safety in all aspects, with no incidents occurring.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requires schools to quickly stabilize teaching and learning in the first days of the new year, while strengthening management measures to ensure student safety.
