Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Van, Communications Director of Central Retail Group in Vietnam - the unit managing the GO! and Big C supermarket systems, informed that due to concerns about the impact of storm Yagi, in many places, people's shopping needs have also increased compared to before.
Supermarket extends operating hours
To meet the increasing demand of the people, GO! and Big C proactively work with suppliers to double the supply of fresh fruits and vegetables (essential goods), ensuring that there is no shortage of goods and high prices.
At GO! supermarket, Big C North has extended opening hours to 11pm, instead of 10pm as usual.
At the GO! and Big C supermarket systems in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, goods were quite abundant on the morning of September 6, with people mainly going to buy essential goods to stock up. “In addition, we have proactively stocked up on a large amount of essential goods and dry foods, enough to meet the demand 3-5 times higher than usual,” said Ms. Van.
Fresh foods such as vegetables, meat and fish have increased their quantity 2-3 times compared to normal days and we have worked with suppliers to increase the delivery frequency to 2-3 times per day instead of once as before if demand suddenly increases.
Up to now, this supermarket system said that there has been no shortage of goods, prices at GO! and Big C supermarkets in the North are still guaranteed as usual.
Similarly, the Co.opmart supermarket chain in the North said it quickly had a response plan, proactively increasing its inventory by 3 times compared to normal days.
Items with increased reserves include green vegetables, fruits, rice, instant noodles, instant vermicelli, sugar, cooking oil, MSG, etc.
Recording the business situation, this morning, September 6, the Co.opmart system had about 30% higher purchasing power than usual. Supermarket staff were on duty at the product lines, cash registers, warehouses, etc. to quickly replenish, not to keep customers waiting.

Increase supply of support
At the WinMart chain, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, deputy general director of the chain, said that purchasing power on the morning of September 6 mainly fell on fresh food items such as meat, vegetables that tend to be stored for a long time such as squash, pumpkin, frozen food items, instant noodles, etc.
This system also recorded that WinMart Thang Long supermarket, the amount of imported goods increased by 200-300%, the number of customers coming to the supermarket to shop this morning increased by 300% compared to normal days.
For example, for the two main sources of leafy vegetables, WinEco farm in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, the storm-hit area, WinMart quickly mobilized additional sources of goods from WinEco and other suppliers in Lam Dong.
According to Mr. Dung, in case people cannot go to the supermarket, the WinMart supermarket chain still maintains normal operating hours in shopping malls from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and WinMart supermarkets located outside shopping malls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. every day.
“We have proactively worked with suppliers and increased our stock of fresh food products by 30%. In addition, WinMart has dry food products, refrigerated products and frozen goods ready to serve customers.
Preparation and storage of goods at central warehouses in the Northern region, increasing inventory at supermarkets, ensuring adequate goods to serve customers. Regarding the limited means of transport during storms and floods, WinMart has been regularly connecting with customers through a loyalty program for remote purchases," Mr. Dung informed.
