Sancho could return to MU after this season. |
Sancho joins Chelsea on loan in the summer of 2024, with a £25m buyout clause. The clause is triggered if the London club finish the season higher than 14th in the Premier League. Chelsea are likely to buy Sancho outright as they are currently fourth, with only nine games remaining.
However, it is reported that Chelsea are looking to back out of their commitment by paying a significant portion of the £25m, largely because Sancho has failed to live up to expectations. If this happens, United will be in the awkward position of having to figure out how to deal with a player who is no longer in their plans.
In the event of Sancho's return, according to ESPN , MU will let coach Ruben Amorim have full authority to decide the player's future. In fact, Sancho could be suitable for the creative No. 10 role in the 3-4-3 formation that Amorim applies. However, his attitude and personal troubles make keeping Sancho a risky gamble.
Despite being tipped as a big star, Sancho has failed to live up to his billing at Old Trafford, scoring just two goals and providing six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, a disappointing return for a player who is earning £250,000 a week.

Sancho continues to disappoint at Chelsea. |
Not only has Sancho declined professionally, he has also been involved in scandals off the field. He had a conflict with Erik ten Hag in September 2023, leading to him being removed from the squad for 4 months. After that, MU was forced to send Sancho to Dortmund on loan to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Sancho has also angered MU fans with controversial statements on social media, thereby tarnishing his image. If Chelsea really refuses to buy him outright, MU will clearly have to worry about the future of a player who is not only unqualified but also has attitude problems.
With all these factors, Amorim needs to make a wise decision. He must find a way to reintegrate Sancho, or completely remove him to avoid creating more instability for the team.
