Considered a province with great potential and room to develop large-scale, high-quality rice production, in recent years, Thanh Hoa's agricultural sector has directed localities to implement solutions to improve rice quality to meet the needs of domestic and foreign markets.
Grasping the difficulties as well as practical requirements, the agricultural sector has encouraged farmers to gradually apply synchronous mechanization, from land preparation, care, harvesting to preservation and processing of agricultural products. In addition, focus on piloting and replicating models of applying scientific and technical advances in rice production on a large scale such as: Transplanting hybrid rice, applying deep pellet fertilizer, introducing 3-line hybrid rice varieties with drought resistance, using drones... Currently, the rate of using rice varieties with high yield, high quality, adaptability and resistance in the province accounts for 90% such as: Thai Xuyen 111, VT 404, Phuc Thai 168, Q5, Lam Son 8, TBJ03, DD 2, Loc Troi 183, BQ, TBR225, Thien Uu 8, Nep Thom 86... At the same time, promote land accumulation and concentration to build and develop areas of intensive rice cultivation with high yield, quality and efficiency, creating conditions for applying synchronous mechanization in the production process. People have also been aware in the process of using pesticides, choosing pesticides of biological origin, with high selectivity and prevention and control effectiveness, decomposing quickly, leaving little residue in the environment and products.
In Thieu Vien commune (Thieu Hoa), many years ago, Thieu Vien Agricultural Service Cooperative began researching and putting into trial production the Japanese rice variety - Japonica (J02) according to VietGAP standards. This is one of the 10 best quality varieties today with many outstanding advantages such as: strong plants, strong tillering, good lodging resistance, cold tolerance, strong, good resistance to pests and diseases and good resistance to leaf blight, especially in the crop season. However, in the past, the concept of VietGAP was quite unfamiliar to traditional production practices, so the Cooperative renovated and restored the commune's fallow fields to put them into production, and at the same time signed a contract to link production and product consumption with businesses so that people could feel secure and boldly invest in production. In addition, the Cooperative has cooperated with Green Agriculture Company Limited to transfer advanced science and technology, provide seeds, pesticides and consume all products for people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuoi, a member of the cooperative, said: “During the cultivation process, the cooperative guides and supports us in accessing modern, safe planting and care techniques that protect the health of producers and the environment. The entire production process is strictly controlled by the cooperative from sowing, care, harvesting to processing, along with the packaging and post-harvest preservation process.”
To improve the quality of rice products, localities also focus on forming and developing many models of linking rice production in chains with high economic efficiency such as: The model of rice production and processing of Sao Khue Trading Joint Stock Company with households in Trieu Son and Nong Cong districts... The model of high-quality rice production in an organic direction associated with product consumption between Bac Trung Bo Joint Stock Company and households in communes in Quang Xuong district. Along with investment in production, localities in the province also focus on building brands for rice products such as: Gia Mieu Ngoai Trang yellow sticky rice, Tien Son rice, Huong Que clean rice, Van Dai rice... have been recognized as OCOP products.
According to Nguyen Van Thinh, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Trung district, "Based on the local terrain conditions, in the coming years we will continue to build models of rice cultivation combined with aquaculture. In addition, applying scientific and technical measures; enhancing deep processing, focusing on brand building are considered important solutions to increase the value and efficiency of rice production in the area".
It can be said that recently, rice production in the province has been increasingly in-depth, with increasing quality and production profits; people have changed their production thinking, applied new science and technology to production stages from planting and care; built large-scale, high-quality rice production models, creating stable raw material areas for processing factories. In the coming time, with the goal of ensuring both quality and quantity, the agricultural sector will continue to direct localities to apply advanced technical advances, quality varieties, new technology, and smart technology in rice production; process safe rice products to serve the increasing needs of consumers, build and develop the province's rice brand...
