Shrimp industry seeks "breakthrough" opportunities in 2025

Việt NamViệt Nam09/04/2025

In 2024, the Vietnamese shrimp industry overcame many challenges to achieve an export turnover of over 4 billion USD, an increase of 14% compared to 2023. Of which, Bac Lieu province contributed to that achievement with nearly 1,130 million USD and the plan for this year is 1,210 million USD.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the shrimp industry is entering a green revolution phase with a strong change in production methods and models from traditional to sustainable production and the application of technology and digital transformation in farming. Especially the use of renewable energy such as solar energy, wind energy and energy-saving solutions... Many businesses have proactively invested in green shrimp farming technology, minimizing environmental impacts, meeting the standards of international markets and achieving ASC, GlobalGAP, BAP certification. Along with that, the use of shrimp feed has been improved towards low carbon emissions and increased environmental friendliness.

Currently, the main goal of the shrimp industry is not only to focus on output but also to prioritize quality, protect consumer health and create sustainable added value. This is the key for Vietnamese shrimp to continue to affirm its position in the world market and is also an urgent need for the organization of the Vietnam Shrimp Industry International Technology Exhibition Fair, which was held every 2 years in Can Tho City. Because this fair has attracted many domestic and foreign corporations and enterprises to introduce new and innovative products and technologies and help shrimp farmers have the opportunity to learn and share experiences to bring about successful farming seasons and expand cooperation and develop the market. However, it is very regrettable that only a few businesses from Bac Lieu province participated in this fair and many people also asked why large fairs or conferences promoting and advertising shrimp have rarely taken place in the province while Bac Lieu has always been proud of being the "capital" of the shrimp industry in the region and the whole country?!
