Explore the green grasslands of Ta Giang

Through the forest, across the stream

Last weekend, we followed a trekking group (hiking to explore nature) to conquer the Ta Giang grassland for 2 days and 1 night. At 5:00 a.m., the car departed from Nha Trang City to Thanh Son Commune to begin the journey. According to local people, to reach the Ta Giang grassland, in addition to going from Thanh Son Commune, visitors can follow the route from Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park (Lam Dong Province) down. Mr. Tran Huu Nghia (in Nha Trang) shared: “I have experienced and conquered some mountains in the province such as: Co Tien, Hoang Nguu Son... Once, when my friends introduced me to Ta Giang, I saw the beautiful scenery so I decided to experience it. With this route, the most difficult part is the section along the stream, there are many rocks and slippery, so before going, you need to train your physical strength well. In my opinion, for those who like to travel and explore nature, this is a place worth trying”.

During the journey, visitors will have to cross streams many times.

With the guidance of Mr. Cao Van Bang - the guide and porter, the whole group began the journey of walking, climbing mountains, and crossing rocky streams. The destination we arrived at was an area located at an altitude of about 1,000m above sea level. The trekking route was a journey along the Khe River up to the high hills. The entire outbound and return journey was about 23km long, an interesting challenge for those who love exploring nature. The best time to go is from February to September every year; and from October to December is the rainy season, so the river water is high and impassable. The whole group followed the Khe River - the border between the two provinces of Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa, weaving on the trail, listening to the sound of the water trickling like a gentle melody in the ears. During this season, the river water is not too deep but there are still many fast flowing sections so when crossing, you have to be careful because there are many rocks of all sizes underneath, there are some sections where you have to walk completely on the rocks so you need to observe carefully when walking. In the first 6km, visitors will cross many cool streams with clear water that you can see the bottom. There are sections of the stream that flow into natural swimming pools so visitors can enjoy bathing and relaxing in the cool water.

Immerse yourself in nature

Halfway through the journey, there is a small camp of local people selling soft drinks to serve the needs of tourists. If you do not bring enough water, you can stop by to buy bottled water available here. Then, continue to cross the green forests, learn about the plants; admire and take pictures with ancient trees, romantic bamboo forests... After overcoming the last slope, tourists will reach the camping site. Ta Giang grassland appears green like a beautiful painting. The poetic and romantic camping site is located in the middle of the valley, surrounded by the green of grass, mountains and sky. Here, there are tent rental services, food and drink, shower water... At night, it is very cold so you need to prepare warm clothes to wear.

There is no phone signal or wifi here, visitors can immerse themselves in nature, watch the sunset, welcome the sunrise and enjoy dishes prepared by the locals. The lush green vegetation, clear stone streams, and vast grasslands have created a unique beauty of Ta Giang, attracting many visitors to explore. Mr. Dang Tran Thuc - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City said: "My group has 20 members participating in trekking Ta Giang. The route is not difficult, going through the forest and many cool streams, so the members really like it. Through the journey of more than 10 hours of trekking, the majestic and wild mountain scenery appears before our eyes, so beautiful. On the way, there are many stone streams - this is a special thing that other places do not have".

Along the way, visitors will see beautiful ancient trees with their own eyes.

According to Mr. Bang, currently, a package tour to explore Ta Giang costs from 1.8 to 2.7 million VND/person depending on whether you go from Khanh Hoa or Ho Chi Minh City. Each tour has at least 3 guests, 1 porter will carry about 20kg and support 1 to 3 guests throughout the journey. The porters are mainly local people, this job has helped them earn an additional income of 1.2 million VND/trip. "In addition to working as porters, some local people also carry food and drinks to the campsite to serve tourists, so they have more money to cover their living expenses. Therefore, I hope Ta Giang tourism will develop further so that the lives of local people will be increasingly improved," Mr. Bang shared.

Ta Giang grassland attracts many tourists from inside and outside the province to check-in.

If you have the opportunity to visit the mountainous district of Khanh Son, visitors should try conquering Ta Giang to see the lush green grasslands and soak in the cool stream hidden among the vast mountains and forests.
