Preserving intangible cultural heritage values ​​to develop tourism in Vinh Linh

It can be seen that in recent years, Vinh Linh district has focused on organizing the preservation, restoration and promotion of the value of typical revolutionary historical relics in the area to multiply the tradition of loving the homeland and country in the renovation process.

At the same time, it is necessary to preserve cultural values, invest in and effectively exploit cultural institutions to promote tourism development. The system of historical and cultural relics such as: Hien Luong - Ben Hai special national relic cluster, Cua Tung, Vinh Moc tunnel, Ru Linh... are gradually being connected and invested in to form important tours and tourist routes of the district and the province, aiming to build a model of smart tourism and agricultural tourism.

In December 2024, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, the Hanoi City Media Association and the People's Committee of Vinh Linh district signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, establishing relationships, and improving the quality of tourism products and services in Vinh Linh district.

Determining the eastern tourist route of Vinh Linh district includes the connection between Hien Luong - Cua Tung - Vinh Moc - Ru Linh - Tung Luat Folk Village - Ben Do A - Tomb 61. The tourist route along Ben Hai river includes the connection between Hien Luong - Ben Tat Suspension Bridge - Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery - Nha Bom - Gio An ancient well. The tourist route of Thuy U lake - Vinh Hoang village - Truong Nha Ho - Vinh Thai beach. The tourist route of Western Quang Tri includes the relic where the first B52 plane was shot down - Khe Ho - Van Kieu stilt house village - to Vinh O connecting with Brai cave and Chenh Venh waterfall. The route along Sa Lung river connects the temple of Lady Princess Le - Hill 74 (Loi Reng cave) - The battlefield on November 11, 1966 and Thuy Ba war zone (old)...

In the long history of traditional culture, besides the tangible cultural heritages, the intangible traditional cultural features in Vinh Linh are also very rich and diverse. In recent times, the Party committees and authorities at all levels in the district have paid attention to restoring, preserving and promoting intangible cultural values.

Currently, Vinh Linh district has 45 intangible cultural heritages included in the list of intangible culture of Quang Tri province, including the following groups: Folk knowledge (6), Social customs (6), Traditional crafts (11), Folk performing arts (12), Revolutionary festivals, traditional festivals (4), Folk literature, spoken and written language (5).

Through the ups and downs of history, currently some traditional intangible cultural features in the district have gradually disappeared due to the impact of objective factors, especially the impact of scientific and technological development, such as: the oil pressing profession in Dong Truong (Vinh Tu commune); the fishing ceremony in Thai Lai village, the singing of spells in Thai Lai village, the spring festival in Thu Luat village (Vinh Thai commune); the weaving profession, the incense making profession in Thuy Trung village (Trung Nam commune); the swing festival in Huong Nam village (Kim Thach commune); the hat making and weaving profession in An Du Nam (Cua Tung town)...

Faced with this situation, Vinh Linh district has focused on investing resources along with many appropriate policies to restore, preserve and promote intangible cultural values ​​in the district and brought about remarkable results.

Typical ones are in Vinh Tu commune with the Vinh Hoang story-telling festival (from the 4th to the 6th of January); the Bai Choi festival in Ho Xa town, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Lam, Trung Nam, Vinh Giang communes (from the 2nd day of Tet to the 6th of January); the February full moon festival includes activities: traditional boat racing and rowing (Tung Luat village, Vinh Giang commune); the May full moon fishing festival (Vinh Moc village, Kim Thach commune); the Cua Tung town traditional boat racing festival (on the 4th of January); the January full moon festival includes activities: boat racing festival, cultural and artistic festival (Huynh Thuong village, Vinh Son commune); the death anniversary of the Lady Princess of the Le family (Vinh Long commune); the Vinh O highland market (on the 19th of every month); gong festival (Vinh O commune)... In particular, the district organizes a cultural festival every 5 years to celebrate Vinh Linh traditional day (August 25) to preserve and promote the cultural identity values ​​of the locality.

Along with the work of preserving and promoting intangible cultural values, traditional craft villages and culinary cultural products in the district have also been focused on restoring, forming and developing with branded products highly appreciated by domestic and foreign tourists such as: jelly rice cake, vegetable jam soup (Cua Tung town, Kim Thach commune); fish sauce making, shrimp floss making (Cua Tung town, Vinh Thai commune), cuisine, Banyan flower salad (Phuc Lam village, Vinh Long commune); jumping shrimp salad (Trang lake, Thuy U lake, Vinh Tu commune)...

10 traditional folk culture clubs have also been established in the past time with nearly 200 artisans, talented people, passionate about folk culture and arts participating. Typical examples include: Song Hien Folk Song Club; Vinh Hoang Storytelling Club; Don Due, Ho Xa, Trung Nam Bai Choi Clubs; Tung Village Folk Song Club (Tung Luat, Vinh Giang), Hien Thanh Folk Song Club; Gong Clubs of 3 communes Vinh O, Vinh Khe, Vinh Ha...

After its establishment, the clubs organized monthly training sessions according to the regulations, and participated in performing activities to serve the people on holidays, New Year and other festivals organized by the authorities at all levels. Through the process of performing, teaching and contributing to traditional folk cultural activities, 10 people in the district were awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by the President.

In order to facilitate the conservation and promotion of typical intangible cultural heritage values ​​in Vinh Linh district, contributing to the development of tourism, the district has proposed many effective and adaptive solutions.

First of all, strengthen the leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the coordination of the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations, and the participation of all classes of people in preserving and promoting cultural identity, including the culture of the Van Kieu ethnic group. Focus on linking the task of cultural preservation with the task of tourism development. Promote the restoration, preservation, conservation, and promotion of intangible cultural values.

Develop mechanisms and policies, focus resources on preserving and promoting intangible cultural values. Improve the quality of staff work, train human resources to serve the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural values.

In particular, in the context of current international integration, mobilizing the participation of the community, especially the youth union members, community tourism management teams, individuals working in community tourism of ethnic minorities... are important factors in implementing the task of preserving ethnic culture and promoting local tourism development.
