The play was directed by People's Artist Trinh Kim Chi based on a script by author Nguyen Khang Chien.
The work won the B prize at the Script Writing Camp organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association in 2020.
The play tells the story of female Youth Volunteers with the noble mission of clearing the way for soldiers to cross the front line. They are female drivers of Truong Son and Youth Volunteers on the road to Heaven's Gate (Quang Binh), one of the most fiercely attacked places in the battle to protect the Fatherland.
In the play, the author skillfully brought the audience back to witness the difficult life of the Youth Volunteer Force clinging to Heaven's Gate - a place with steep terrain that even the best male drivers were afraid of. American planes bombed day and night, causing the rocks and soil on Heaven's Gate to melt into thick mud carpets. Yet the female Youth Volunteer Force of Truong Son at that time conquered Heaven's Gate in a spectacular way.
A scene from the play “That Day Heaven's Gate”
At Heaven's Gate, the sacrifices and losses are countless. Below, they conquer bomb-torn terrain, above, bullets and bombs rain down.
The play convinced the audience when the actors clearly portrayed the characters, the music blended into the story, giving the audience many emotions about the inner thoughts of the roles such as: Phuc (Dao Van Anh), Son (Thanh Son), grandfather (Chanh Thuan), father (Trong Hieu), hamlet chief (Phuong Binh), Le Chi Na (commander Ky)...
The play will participate in the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival in 2024.
