Before doing costume work, Ms. Dang Thi Xuan was an artist of the opera troupe. At that time, she was accepted as a disciple by People's Artist Dinh Bang Phi, assigned small roles, and then she volunteered to do additional work of "do hoi", taking care of costumes for the artists. "Ms. Xuan is very smart, in a small role, even though she was assigned a few hours, she quickly memorized the play and then performed very confidently. Later, when assigned the costume work, she remembered each play, which artist played which role, what kind of costumes and hats were needed, she reminded them all and was an effective costume secretary of the troupe. Sometimes an artist played many roles in one performance, had to change many costumes, she remembered and calculated in detail so as not to miss the performance, without her, the artists would be confused in each performance, especially singing for communal houses, the backstage conditions were cramped behind the communal houses and temples, so the arrangement of costumes needed to be scientific and meticulous" - People's Artist Dinh Bang Phi recalled.
Artist Bich Lan visits artist Dang Thi Xuan
According to playwright Duc Hien, Dang Thi Xuan's life was very sad. She was orphaned at a young age, lived with the stage and considered the opera troupe her home. "When People's Artist Phung Ha built the artists' retirement home, she was one of the people allowed to live there. She took care of the elderly artists, and then became involved in the art exchange performances of the retirement home. She lived a gentle, kind life, without offending anyone. Her passing left many regrets for the elderly artists at Thi Nghe retirement home" - playwright Duc Hien said.
