"Man Utd confirmed that seven players will be released after their contracts expire in June, including Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Galbraith, Di'Shon Bernard, Eric Hanbury, Charlie Wellens and Manni Norkett," Man Utd announced on its homepage on the evening of June 16 (Vietnam time).
Except for Phil Jones, the remaining players are all young talents trained from the "Red Devils" academy but they did not meet expectations to have a place in the first team.
"The Academy is proud of all the young players who will leave the club because of their achievements while here. They will all be supported to secure professional contracts at new clubs, provided with a bespoke aftercare programme and will always be committed to Man Utd for life," the Old Trafford club added.
In the squad list for the 2022-23 season sent by Man Utd to the Premier League organizing committee, the team also announced that goalkeeper Jack Butland, midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and striker Wout Weghorst will be removed after their loan contracts expire.
Man Utd are still negotiating a contract extension with goalkeeper De Gea. According to The Sun, the Spanish goalkeeper seems to have agreed to sign a one-year contract extension.
The Old Trafford team also activated contract extensions for Tom Heaton, Ethan Laird, Rhys Bennett and Nathan Bishop.
In the near future, the "Red Devils" are expected to say goodbye to Eric Bailly, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and even Harry Maguire. On the contrary, coach Erik ten Hag hopes to add at least 3 new players including a new striker, midfielder and central defender.
