Since March 10, the Malaysian University of Technology (MUT) team has started training again to prepare for the Youth tournament. International Student Tournament 1 - THACO Cup 2025. Before that, MUT players finished the A1 Semi-Pro League season on February 22 and had a necessary break to recover their physical condition. MUT's participants were students from semi-professional teams including UiTM United (MARA University of Technology) FC, Malaysian FC and Kuala Lumpur City FC. Therefore, the players needed a lot of time to practice together to create cohesion.
Because the meeting time coincided with the fasting month of Ramadan, MUT players had to practice after sunset to ensure the quality of the training session (Muslims are only allowed to eat after sunset, so they do not have enough energy to practice during the day). This was an obstacle for MUT, however, the players were all eager, enthusiastic and practiced extremely hard.
They understand that they need to practice well and stand out to be given the opportunity to compete. And when they are on the field, they also need to take advantage of the opportunity and perform well to aim for a place at the Asian University Games, taking place in their home country, Malaysia.
MUT players are fierce in every move because everyone wants to be the "chosen one"
MUT trains systematically, improving all aspects from technique, tactics to physical strength
Coach Mohd Yazil Yahya (in black jacket) always gives very careful instructions to his students.
MUT is in no rush to set a championship goal.
Although MUT is preparing carefully with nearly 2 weeks of training before the tournament, owning a quality squad, players who regularly compete in semi-professional tournaments, the Malaysian representative still appears modest. Coach Mohd Yazli Yahya, captain of MUT shared: "Most of our players are still young and this is their first time appearing in the international arena. We do not dare to set any specific goals. The players just want to do their best to contribute to the country as well as the team they are playing for."
The 2025 THACO Cup International Youth Football Tournament will take place from March 22 to March 30 at Ton Duc Thang University. The 6 teams participating in the tournament are Ton Duc Thang University (host), Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism (THACO Cup 2025 Youth Football Champion), Life University (Cambodia), Lao University, Malaysian University and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
