Nghinh Phong Square (Phu Yen) was voted the World's Leading City Monument for the first time at the World Travel Awards.
To be named in the category, Nghinh Phong Square surpassed a series of other nominations including: African Renaissance Monument in Senegal, Discovery Monument in Portugal and Užupis Angel Statue in Lithuania. Nghinh Phong Phu Yen Square is over 7,200 square meters wide, located at the intersection of Nguyen Huu Tho and Doc Lap, Tuy Hoa city (Phu Yen). The square is considered a new tourism symbol of Phu Yen. Nghinh Phong Square was built in 2021, inspired by Phu Yen's Ganh Da Dia, with round stone blocks stacked side by side. The main tower in the middle of the square has two stone pillars, one 35 meters high symbolizing Lac Long Quan, and the other 30 meters high symbolizing Au Co. 50 stone blocks are stacked under each tower, symbolizing 50 children following their mother to the mountains, and 50 children following their father to the sea. After its inauguration, the square will have a capacity of about 10,000 people, and will be the venue for cultural, artistic and entertainment events in Phu Yen province. Before the World's Leading City Monument award at the World Travel Awards 2023, Nghinh Phong Square was also honored at the Asian Urban Landscape Award. It is also the only representative of Southeast Asia to be named at this Award.
