Quang Ninh has 1 individual honored as Scientist of Farmers

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union has just coordinated with ministries and branches to organize the 5th Ceremony to honor Farmers' Scientists and award the 10th Farmers' Technical Innovation Contest in 2024. Among the 56 Farmers' Scientists honored, Quang Ninh province has Ms. Tran Thi Hong, Kim Son ward, Dong Trieu town, former Director of Quang Ninh Seed Joint Stock Company.

Ms. Tran Thi Hong is always passionate and active in scientific research and technological innovation to select and create new, good, high-yielding rice varieties. For many years, she has been the head of a provincial-level scientific project on testing new rice varieties. At the same time, she is the main author of 14 purebred rice varieties recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and 17 new purebred rice varieties granted plant variety protection certificates by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Not only providing the first-line rice seeds for Dong Trieu town and the whole province, the Company's rice seeds have also reached remote provinces in the South Central Coast and the Central Highlands such as Dak Lak and Kon Tum. Ms. Hong and the company's staff also restored and preserved the province's native rice genetic resources such as Dong Trieu yellow flower sticky rice, Quang Ninh dwarf bao thai, Dong Trieu red beach, helping farmers increase their income and create products under the province's OCOP program. Many rice varieties have gone down in history for a time of hunger eradication and poverty reduction such as: Khang Dan 18, Q5, Huong thom so 1, Kim cuong 90, DT34, DT37... High-quality rice varieties with high commodity value such as Nep DT52, Hong huong DT128, DT100, DT120 have become the brand and pride of Quang Ninh Seed Joint Stock Company.

Individuals honored as Farmers' Scientists include scientists, intellectuals, inventors and creative farmers whose research and initiatives to improve technical processes have been widely applied, bringing benefits to farmers.
