Specifically, Myanmar military government spokesman Zaw Min Tun said the country's military is facing "major attacks" from a "significant number of armed insurgents" in Shan state in the northeast, Kayah state in the east and Rakhine state in western Myanmar, according to Reuters.

Zaw Min Tun added that several military positions had been evacuated and that the rebels had used drones to drop hundreds of bombs on military posts. “We are urgently taking measures to effectively defend ourselves against drone attacks,” Zaw Min Tun said late on November 15.

In Myanmar's capital Naypyitaw, government officials have been ordered to set up units to deal with "emergency" situations, according to Naypyitaw Council Secretary Tin Maung Swe. He denied that the order was to deal with the security situation, insisting that the capital was calm.

Meanwhile, a parallel government formed by Myanmar's anti-military faction and allied with some rebel factions has launched the "Road to Naypyitaw" campaign to take control of the capital Naypyitaw, according to Reuters.

A coordinated attack against the military was launched on October 27 in Shan State, which borders China. In Shan State, armed insurgents have seized several towns and more than 100 military posts. Earlier this week, the Myanmar government imposed a curfew in Shan State, according to Reuters.

Also this week, fighting broke out on two new fronts in Myanmar's western Rakhine and Chin states, forcing about 5,000 people to flee to neighboring India, according to Reuters.

The Arakan Army (AA), a rebel group fighting for autonomy in Rakhine state, said on November 15 that dozens of police and soldiers had surrendered or been captured as their forces advanced. A spokesman for the Rakhine government accused the AA of “destroying” Rakhine state, according to Reuters.

Since the new round of fighting broke out in Myanmar, some people have crossed the border into China to seek asylum and escape the conflict, China's Foreign Ministry said today. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning added that Beijing has provided necessary assistance and tried its best to rescue the injured.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterresd was deeply concerned by the “expansion of conflict in Myanmar” and called on all parties to protect civilians, a UN spokesman said, according to Reuters. “The number of displaced people in Myanmar has now exceeded 2 million,” the spokesman added.
