Women in Viet Tri city help each other to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty

With practical activities, over the years, the Women's Union of Viet Tri city has always cared for, accompanied and been a solid support for poor members and low-income women, helping many women create jobs, increase income, improve their lives and escape poverty.

Leaders of Viet Tri City Women's Union presented funds to support the construction of a charity home for Ms. Dao Thi Cuc, Hy Cuong commune.

Currently, the City Women's Union has more than 32,000 members operating at 25 branches. To carry out activities to support women's economic development, the City Women's Union has launched many emulation movements, such as directing 100% of the branches to organize activities of "5 No, 3 Clean" and "5 Yes, 3 Clean"; registering to help 146 households achieve 8 campaign criteria, including 37 poor/near-poor households in 2024.

Maintain and expand 136 "5 in 1" groups, 910 groups implementing the 3 clean criteria, 766 model addresses, clubs to meet the needs and aspirations of women members. Implementing the "Godmother" program, the Association has donated funds and gifts for Tet, the new school year, and Mid-Autumn Festival to orphans and children in difficult circumstances with a total value of nearly 200 million VND. In 2024, the Association connected and sponsored 13 orphans; awarded scholarships from the "Step Up to School" Fund to 4 excellent orphans in Bach Hac, Tho Son wards, and Phuong Lau commune.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Kim Khanh - President of the Women's Union of Viet Tri City shared: The movement of women competing to develop the economy and reduce poverty sustainably does not only help members increase their income, gradually stabilize their lives, but also helps women affirm their role and position in the family and society.

To care for the lives of members in difficult circumstances, in the first 9 months of the year, women's union members throughout the city have contributed to building 3 "Homes of Love". From now until the end of the year, the Union will continue to complete and hand over 2 houses to families of poor women members and women in difficult circumstances in Kim Duc commune and Duu Lau ward.

Based on the targets and activities, the Women's Union at all levels also focused on exploiting capital sources to support women in economic development and guiding women on how to use capital effectively. The Union has directed the management, supervision and use of capital sources through the Union organization to ensure efficiency with a total outstanding debt of nearly 120 billion VND. Implementing Project 939, proposing to support 30 women to access capital from the Social Policy Bank to start a business; 6 ideas participating in the Women's Startup Competition in 2024; maintaining 71 locations implementing the women's startup model and 47 economic development association groups with 225 members and diverse fields and professions. At the same time, effectively managing and using more than 100 million VND of mobilized support "Supporting women to start a business" for 19 members to borrow capital. Maintain a livelihood model for 8 members of the "Women and Children with Disabilities" Club; 1 women's start-up model "Handicraft knitting"...

Not only that, the Women's Union at all levels also actively participated in the delegation of the Provincial Women's Union in the program "Women of the whole country turn to Dien Bien" and the program to accompany women of the Lao PDR with the activity of supporting 50 million VND to build MATT for poor households in Luong Nam Tha province.

During the recent storm No. 3, the Association actively coordinated to propagate the evacuation of households affected by storms and floods to safe places, supported households in cleaning and repairing houses, and restoring production when the water receded; visited, encouraged, shared and gave gifts to support 8 families of officials and members whose relatives were missing in the collapse of Phong Chau bridge and were affected by floods and storms; supported and assisted people in localities affected by storms and floods (Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Lao Cai...) with a total of over 200 million VND.

It can be said that, with many practical ways, the Women's Union at all levels of Viet Tri City has truly become a support for poor women, contributing to the effective implementation of social security work in the locality.
