A parent in Bac Ninh sent his concerns and frustration to the Department of Education and Training of this province: "My child has studied 2 sessions/day, but every day the teacher assigns a lot of homework. We are workers, we come home late every day, at 9pm we let our child study, but sometimes it's not finished until 11pm...".

Parents are upset because their children study 2 sessions a day in class but do homework until midnight every night.

Commenting on the fanpage of Bac Ninh Province's Electronic Information Portal, many people sympathized with the above opinion and suggested: "The Department of Education and Training needs to thoroughly inform all schools to reduce the workload for children. Children lose their entire childhood because of schoolwork."

"The suffering of parents when their children are in first grade. They write in class and then give them a bunch of homework to rewrite. They study from 7pm to 10pm but still can't finish. They go to bed late and wake up early the next morning to go to school. On Saturdays and Sundays, the teacher is afraid that the students will have too much free time so she gives them more homework to study," commented another person.

In a written response, the Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh said: Every year, in providing professional guidance at the primary level and when inspecting the implementation of school year tasks at primary schools, the Department of Education and Training has directed schools that when organizing 2 sessions/day, must reserve time at the end of each session for students to complete their lessons right in class.

Teachers only assign students to apply the knowledge they have learned at home, for example: first graders learn about the unit of length cm, at home they will practice measuring the length of a brick, a TV remote control... or only assign homework when really necessary and for each specific student.

The Department of Education and Training of Bac Ninh also affirmed that in the coming time, it will continue to direct the Departments of Education and Training and primary schools to implement this content.

To improve the coordination between schools and parents in organizing educational activities, if there are any comments, suggestions, or requests, citizens are requested to directly discuss with the school and teachers so that the school and teachers can make timely adjustments, creating the best educational environment and conditions for students.

In Directive 5105/CT-BGDDT dated November 3, 2014 on rectifying the situation of extra teaching and learning in primary education issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, it is stipulated: "For schools and classes that teach 2 sessions/day, students must be guided to complete the learning content in class; it is strictly forbidden to assign homework to students; it is encouraged to organize for students to leave books and learning materials in class.

For schools and classes that teach one session per day, only assign homework equal to the amount of homework for students who study two sessions per day...".
