For the first time, students took the national science research exam under the new regulations.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced that the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Middle and High School Students will take place in Ho Chi Minh City from March 19 to 21. This is the first year the competition will be held under new regulations.

This year, the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Secondary and High School Students was held for the first time in accordance with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on April 10, 2024.

Accordingly, the participating units are the Department of Education and Training, each unit can register a maximum of 3 projects; the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, each unit can register a maximum of 6 projects (an increase of 2 to 4 projects compared to the old regulations).

For participating units that are schools under ministries, universities, colleges, institutes, and academies, each unit can register a maximum of 2 competition projects. The competition host unit can register a maximum of 6 competition projects.

The host unit of the competition is the Hanoi Department of Education and Training or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, each unit can register a maximum of 12 projects for the competition.

Projects participating in the competition are selected from provincial and school level competitions. According to reports from participating units, every year there are 200 - 300 projects participating in the preliminary round to be selected to participate in the final round of the provincial competition, on that basis, projects are selected to participate in the national competition with the number of projects according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training each year.

From the competition results, the Ministry of Education and Training selected the projects that won the highest prizes and were qualified to participate in the international science and technology competition for high school students scheduled to take place in May in the US.

The national science and technology research competition for middle and high school students was first organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in 2013. From 2013 to 2019, the competition was held at 2 locations in the North and South with 4-6 projects/competition units participating and was held in different localities.

From 2020 - 2024, the competition will reduce the number of participating projects (2 projects/contesting unit; for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the competition host unit, 4 projects will be allowed) and will be held in one locality across the country.

This year, the competition had a total of 212 projects in 22 fields, including 23 individual projects, 189 group projects; 190 projects of high school students and 22 projects of middle school students. A total of 401 students participated, including 358 high school students and 43 middle school students.
