"The V.League in the last 4 rounds clearly had a very big problem, which was time-wasting," said Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company, about the problems that need to be overcome in the V.League. This is one of the examples given in the discussion session on exploiting commercial value and benefits surrounding sports competitions at the 2024 Sports Economic Forum held this morning, October 17.
VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu.
Mr. Tran Anh Tu added: "The players waste too much time. The ball rolls on the field too little, reducing the quality of the match. We will meet with the referees, thoroughly clarifying that we must make up for the time, eliminate players pretending to be injured, eliminate violence. There are many situations where the referee should have given a red card, but he did not give it."
According to the Vice President of VFF, improving the quality of matches - which are football products - is an important factor to increase the value of the tournament in particular and Vietnamese football in general. In recent years, VPF and the teams have made many positive changes, improving the image, communication and improving the quality of the tournament.
"The appeal of V.League is there, but how to increase it, so that fans feel the lack of V.League? To do so is a lot of problems ," Mr. Tran Anh Tu shared. The Vice President of VFF also said that VFF is looking to create unique elements throughout, associated with the tournament brand, while creating values aimed at young people.
This discussion session had the participation of Pablo Casaos, the representative of La Liga - the Spanish national championship - in Vietnam. Sharing his experience in exploiting the commercial value of Europe's top league, Mr. Casaos said that La Liga has 4 main sources of revenue, the largest of which is television copyright. However, La Liga is constantly researching and creating other values to have more sources of revenue.
"The current football audience is getting older. La Liga has to reach a younger audience. However, the demand for football viewing of young people is different from the previous generation. They need faster content, more entertainment. We have to create new values," said Mr. Casaos.
