Respect for contributions to the revolution and to the capital
Also joining the delegation were Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Council Pham Qui Tien and leaders of departments and branches.
Representing Ho Chi Minh City were Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Head of the Inspection Committee of the City Party Committee Tran Kim Yen; Vice Chairwoman of Phu Nhuan District People's Committee Nguyen Thi Kieu Nhi and local leaders.
The two people that the Hanoi delegation visited and presented gifts to were Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thien (born in 1931, residing at 003 Lot C - Apartment 43 Ho Van Hue, Ward 9, Phu Nhuan District), and Mr. Vu Quang Chiem (born in 1936, residing at 53 Vo Oanh, Ward 25, Binh Thanh District). Both of them were people who participated in the fight, liberated and took over the capital Hanoi at the historic moment of October 10, 1954.
The activity of visiting and presenting gifts to outstanding people with meritorious services in Ho Chi Minh City is part of the series of events of the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
At the house of Mr. Thien and Mr. Chiem, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong informed about the meeting, visit, and gift-giving to outstanding meritorious people, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and people with meritorious services to the revolution... living in Ho Chi Minh City that took place on the afternoon of August 23. Comrade Nguyen Van Phong also asked about Mr. Thien's health, about the process of directly fighting to liberate and take over the capital, and his subsequent work.
Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong also shared about the activities in the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" being held at Nguyen Hue walking street (District 1) from August 23 to August 25, and invited Mr. Thien's family to take him to visit, because within the framework of the program there are also performances by culinary artists with famous dishes of Hanoi.
Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong also invited Mr. Chiem to visit the capital after 70 years of liberation to see many changes and developments.
Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong, on behalf of the Hanoi Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, expressed gratitude and appreciation for the great contributions of previous generations, including Mr. Thien and Mr. Chiem, who have made great contributions to the revolution in general and to the capital city of Hanoi in particular. At the same time, he wished Mr. Thien, Mr. Chiem and their families good health.
After receiving the emotional gift from the Hanoi Delegation and the gift from Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thien was moved and sent his thanks to the leaders of the two cities.
Mr. Vu Quang Chiem shared: “This year I am 88 years old, and I am very honored to be visited by the leaders of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. After participating in the takeover of the capital in October 1954, I continued to fight in the South, fought and liberated Saigon, captured General Lam Van Phat, completed the national liberation revolution, and unified the country. After that, I continued to participate in the Cambodian battlefield, liberated the capital Phnom Penh, overthrew the Pol Pot - Ieng Sary genocidal regime, and helped the Cambodian people escape genocide.”
Mr. Vu Quang Chiem (from Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province), joined the army in 1949 when he was only 13 years old. Mr. Chiem worked until 1989, retiring with the rank of Colonel of the Vietnam People's Army, holding the position of Chief of Office of the 4th Corps Command.
As for Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thien (from Vien Noi commune, Ung Hoa district, Ha Dong province - now Ha Dong district, Hanoi city; Pre-Uprising cadre). Mr. Thien said: “Before the August Revolution in 1945, I was the Political Commissar of the Self-Defense Company of Dong Da Inter-zone, participating in many battles against the French in My Duc - Hanoi. After the French colonialists returned to invade Vietnam for the second time, on December 19, 1946, President Ho Chi Minh called for national resistance, my comrades and I remained in Ha Dong to fight the French. In 1950, I was sent to study platoon and company command classes for 18 and a half months in Taoyuan, Kunming (China) and then returned to the country in 1951 to continue fighting”.
From March 1952 to October 1954, Mr. Thien was the Deputy Political Commissar of the Company, Political Officer of Battalion 18, then Company C271 - D54 - E102 and participated in many campaigns, such as: Northwest 1 and 2 (1952); Upper Laos 1 and 2 (1953); Winter - Spring (1953-1954); Dien Bien Phu campaign (1954), and served as Party cell Secretary during this time. From October 1954 to October 1960, he held the position of Political Commissar of Battalion 18 - Division 308, with the rank of Senior Lieutenant (1958), still stationed in Hanoi and continued to receive training for a long time.
Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thien retired in 1990, with the rank of Colonel of the Vietnam People's Army, holding the position of Party Secretary - Deputy Director of the Military Medical Academy.
Notably, Mr. Thien's wife is People's Artist Tran Thi Tuyet (born in 1931, in Hanoi). Ms. Tuyet is known to the public through the "Poetry Voice" program of Voice of Vietnam Radio, and is the only person in the field of Vietnamese poetry recitation to be awarded the title of People's Artist in 2016. She passed away in November 2020. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thien and his wife Tran Thi Tuyet have 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl.
