Cho Lach District Party Committee has issued Program No. 04-CTr/HU on developing organic, high-tech agriculture, adapting to climate change (CC). After 5 years of implementation, the program has had a clear change. People have realized the importance of safe production and organic production.

The district has basically achieved progress in restructuring the organic agricultural sector, applying high technology in production according to the value chain adapting to climate change. The total area of fruit trees is gradually recovering after the drought and salinity in 2020, and has now stabilized at nearly 7,000 hectares, of which the area of rambutan is 2,300 hectares, durian is 1,300 hectares, with an average fruit output of 88 thousand tons/year. The district has built and announced the Cho Lach collective brand for rambutan products, built 5 growing areas (3 rambutan, 2 durian) with an area of 103.67 hectares for export. Built and replicated 6 fruit production models with GAP and organic certification with an area of 185 hectares, built and granted 18 export fruit growing area codes, 2 domestic fruit growing area codes with a total area of 281.1 hectares. There are 4 enterprises granted export packaging facility codes.

Local rural infrastructure is invested in and built to meet the needs of organic, high-tech agricultural production, adapting to climate change. Dikes, embankments, and irrigation works to prevent salinity, store fresh water for production, proactively adapt to floods, droughts, and salinities for crops, and areas growing specialty fruit trees are prioritized. Focus on fresh water storage and diversion works, promoting efficiency of over 80%.

In recent years, Cho Lach has promoted the construction of a dike system to protect fruit orchards. There are 52 routes with a length of 242.49km of dikes and embankments, with a dike area of 10,248ha of agricultural land (accounting for 92.13%). The locality has also completed 39 regional-scale sluices to ensure water regulation and safety for production. The district has focused on mobilizing resources and coordinating the implementation of the Ben Tre South - North Irrigation System Project, which has deployed two sluices that are about to be completed, namely Long Hue sluice and Dinh Binh sluice. Coordinated with the SCAT project to implement combined traffic and irrigation projects in the district, aiming to enhance the value chains of key local production. Each year, the district deploys an average of 4 - 8 dike and road projects with more than 20km of concrete roads and 15km of dikes. Currently, the district has 14 agricultural cooperatives, accounting for 93.33% of the total number of cooperatives with 1,349 members.

Continuing to implement the policy on developing organic and high-tech agriculture to adapt to climate change, Cho Lach will gradually improve the stages in the value chain of key agricultural production, implement solutions to help bring about effective linkages to ensure long-term benefits and replicate effective models of production, consumption and value chain linkage. Set a goal of building a 750ha fruit production area associated with value chain development; support the development of growing area codes for over 50% of the area to ensure traceability and food safety. Gradually complete agricultural infrastructure to ensure production safety in climate change conditions.
