"Buddha Tathagata" Chau Long Quang is still happy to be called Buddha

The male artist, born in 1939, studied acting at the Lanzhou Academy of Arts, China. Before participating in Journey to the West , Chau Long Quang was already a famous face in the Chinese acting world.

In 1983, he was chosen by the late director Yang Jie to play the role of Buddha Tathagata in Journey to the West . Like most of the characters in Journey to the West , Zhou Longguang was praised as an artist who could portray the "spirit" of the character.

His square face, wide ears, calm demeanor and deep voice helped him become the most realistic Buddha on screen. This role also became a golden mark in his acting career. His image of Buddha sitting on a lotus has become classic, and no younger generation has been able to surpass it.

Sharing about the opportunity to play the role of Buddha, Chau Long Quang said that he accepted the invitation to participate in Journey to the West from a makeup artist of the film crew. After the film aired, Chau Long Quang's character was loved by many people, some even affectionately called him "Living Buddha" on screen.

After participating in Journey to the West , actor Chau Long Quang continued to act in both film and drama. In addition to Journey to the West , he also participated in a number of films such as Tunnel War, Tay An Tiger Family, Foreign Minister of Martial Arts...

In 2020, Chau Long Quang reunited with "Monkey King" Luc Tieu Linh Dong and "Pigsy" Ma Duc Hoa in a show. The veteran artist wore a cassock, makeup, and a red dot in the middle of his forehead, identical to his classic role in Journey to the West more than 30 years ago.

This August, the actor and "Monkey King" Liu Xiao Ling Tong attended an event related to the film Journey to the West . At the age of 84, he still retains the demeanor of the character Buddha Tathagata. However, the actor is no longer as agile as a few years ago.

He revealed his white hair, slightly hunched back and face covered with the marks of time. Chau Long Quang also had difficulty walking and needed someone to help him onto the stage.

Sharing about his passion for acting, Chau Long Quang said: "Although I am old, I am still lucky to have stable health and rarely get sick. I am happy that the audience still loves me when I perform. Every time I go out on the street, someone recognizes me and calls me Buddha."

Talking about his career success, Chau Long Quang thanked his partner. The veteran star has a happy family that is worthy of his dreams. He married his "wife" Ngo Hue Phuong, who works outside the entertainment industry. They have lived happily for more than 35 years and have 3 daughters together.

Chau Long Quang once shocked everyone when he revealed that in his family, he is the one who does most of the housework, not his wife, because she doesn't know how to cook. The actor also emphasized that being able to personally take care of his loved ones makes him happy and loves life.
