Spyzie falls into a category of spyware commonly known as 'spouseware' - apps that are installed surreptitiously on the devices of other people, often spouses, children or relatives. Although advertised as legitimate monitoring apps, they operate in a legal grey area and are banned from mainstream app stores like the App Store and Play Store.
This is not the first time that apps of this type have been found to be leaking data. Previously, the Cocospy and Spyic apps were also exposed with similar vulnerabilities. According to the researcher, up to 1.81 million email addresses of Cocospy users and 880,000 addresses of Spyic users were exposed. For Spyzie, the number was more than 510,000 email addresses of Android users and sensitive data of at least 4,900 iOS users.
Experts warn that these vulnerabilities are easy to exploit and can have serious consequences for users. They recommend that users thoroughly check their devices to detect and remove suspicious applications.
Currently, Spyzie's operators have not yet given any response regarding this incident.
