HAGL free fall
The 0-1 defeat at Thong Nhat Stadium by Ho Chi Minh City FC in round 15 of the V-League has pushed HAGL closer to crisis. In the last 13 matches, coach Le Quang Trai and his team have only earned 11 points (won 2, drawn 5, lost 6). From the top of the table after 3 rounds, HAGL fell out of the top 5 after 7 rounds, fell to the bottom half after the first leg ended, and now dropped to 10th place.
The gap between HAGL and the danger zone is only 4 points. This is not a safe gap for two reasons. The relegation rivals are all rising, while HAGL faces a very heavy schedule from round 16 to round 20.
HAGL (blue shirt) hangs their shirts on the field of Ho Chi Minh City Club
Waiting for the team of technical director Vu Tien Thanh in the upcoming stormy days are Thanh Hoa (round 16), Binh Duong (round 17), Hanoi Police Club (round 18), Ha Tinh (round 19) and Hai Phong (round 20). In the 5 matches against these teams in the first leg, HAGL only won... 4 points.
The teams of Hanoi Police, Thanh Hoa and Binh Duong are all above HAGL. Meanwhile, the two remaining opponents also bring a feeling of "suffocation". Ha Tinh Club is the hardest team to defeat in V-League this season when it has only lost 1 out of 15 matches played. Ha Tinh's counter-attacking style, quick and sharp transitions thanks to the smooth passing moves have completely overcome HAGL, which was in good form in the first leg. Meanwhile, Hai Phong has won 3 out of the last 4 matches to climb 4 places, reaching 9th place.
The problem for HAGL is that except for the two outstanding matches at the beginning of the season against Quang Nam and SLNA, the team's victories are often lucky and controversial, while the draws and losses match the performance on the field.
HAGL won against Hanoi Police Club in a match that lasted only 50 minutes, the rest of the match was broken by the home team's time-wasting situations on the field at Pleiku. In the match against Hanoi, HAGL had the advantage of having more players for 83 minutes, but still had to work very hard to get 3 points. When the two teams played again in Pleiku, Hanoi Club made no more mistakes and easily crushed HAGL.
HAGL needs an impressive sprint to reach the finish line safely
In addition to their questionable performance, HAGL also played poorly when facing teams in similar situations. Minh Vuong and his teammates drew and lost to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh, Da Nang and Hai Phong clubs.
Waiting for Mr. Vu Tien Thanh's sprint racing talent
If the opponents in the next 5 matches play at their best, HAGL may not get even 1 point. Mr. Vu Tien Thanh's young team has reached its limit when the force is as thin as paper, and the spirit is down after a series of draws and losses in recent times.
This is the time when the talent of the duo Coach Le Quang Trai and Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh needs to be demonstrated. Mr. Vu Tien Thanh helped Ho Chi Minh City Club stay in the league in the 2022, 2023 season or HAGL stay in the league in the 2023 - 2024 season thanks to the impressive ability to "pick up points" in the final rounds. Ho Chi Minh City team won 12 points in the last 8 matches of V-League 2022 when Mr. Vu Tien Thanh took charge to climb from the bottom of the table to 9th. In the 2023 season, Ho Chi Minh City Club won 7 points after the last 4 matches to just enough to stay in the league.
Or at the end of last season, HAGL also accelerated with 10 points after 7 matches, thus reaching the finish line safely.
HAGL needs a similar impressive sprint to avoid being relegated to the first division. The focus of this season for the mountain town team will be on the last 3 rounds, when HAGL will face Da Nang, SLNA and Quang Nam. These are all direct opponents in the survival race. If Mr. Thanh is "cool" in the last rounds as he has been in the past 3 years, HAGL will stay in the league.
