At a meeting with students in Nikolayev on November 30, answering a question about the future of national security, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that he was not sure whether Ukraine could join NATO.

We don't know how it will turn out… No one can say for sure. Either we will join NATO or we won't. We want to, but...", he said.

He stressed that, no matter what, Ukraine will continue to do everything possible and put national security first.

Ukraine has long pursued membership in the US-led military alliance. Ukraine has made NATO membership a strategic foreign policy goal since 2017.

In 2022, Ukraine officially applied to join NATO. However, NATO has not yet admitted Kiev. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg affirmed earlier this week that the alliance members agreed that Ukraine would become a member of the bloc in the future, but only after the conflict ended and Kiev met reform requirements.

On November 29, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said: "Ukraine is on the right track to becoming a member of NATO as well as the European Union, with the accession process already beginning."

Russia has long viewed NATO's growing presence closer to its borders as a major threat. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned that neighboring Ukraine's entry into NATO would be unacceptable.
