Sources close to the matter said over the weekend that in the coming time, instead of focusing on attacking his opponents, former President Donald Trump will speed up his campaign in key states. This is part of Mr. Trump's strategy to regain attention after his campaign seemed to slow down due to the growing appeal of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. A Trump campaign adviser said that the former President's upcoming schedule will be adjusted from before. It is expected that from now until the election on November 5, Mr. Trump will hold "several campaign events every week, if not every day". In particular, after the success of the Democratic National Convention, Mr. Trump considers this a comprehensive sprint to November. In the immediate future, Mr. Trump will focus on important early voting states such as North Carolina or Pennsylvania, as well as states that are heavily leaning towards one party such as Minnesota and Florida. Trump’s team also plans to increase grassroots advocacy groups in these states. In addition to large-scale campaign rallies, Trump plans to hold smaller events in more private, less crowded locations to focus on clarifying his policies. An adviser revealed that the former President is also said to be discussing policy with Republican lawmakers, experts, and allies to study his opponents and adjust his campaign message in the new context ahead of the debate with Democratic candidate Harris in September. For example, former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard has been quietly working with Trump to help him understand Harris’s debating style. Gabbard is one of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates who debated Harris directly. Advisers believe Gabbard’s debating ability hurt Harris’s chances at the time. Trump has previously said he has no interest in preparing for traditional debates and that he does not need to prepare. The changes in Trump's campaign strategy come as close allies warn him to focus on policy rather than personal attacks, and call for him to appear before voters more often. This appears to be part of an effort by Trump and his team to turn the tide as Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, despite entering the race late, has made rapid strides. Harris leads Trump in most polls in key states. However, it is unclear how effective this strategy will be because Trump is unpredictable, temperamental, and "not easily controlled by anyone".
