On January 3, Saigon University launched the Institute of Socio-Economic Research on the basis of reorganizing the Institute of Environmental Technology and Energy, while adding functions and tasks of socio-economic research, data science and artificial intelligence.

Leaders of the Institute of Socio-Economic Research of Saigon University were introduced on January 3.

The Institute is a scientific and technological organization, with legal status, its own seal, and operates under a financial autonomy mechanism. The structure includes the director and two deputy directors, a scientific council, and other supporting departments.

Accordingly, Dr. Le Chi Lan - Vice President of Saigon University is the Director. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phan Thu Hang, Head of the Faculty of Business Administration, concurrently holds the position of Deputy Director. Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee (2021-2022 period), Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee (2014-2021 period) - is the Chairman.

Other council members are prominent figures in higher education such as: Prof. Dr. Mai Hong Quy - former principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law; Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - former vice principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; Assoc. According to Associate Professor Pham Hoang Quan - Principal of Saigon University, the Institute was established from the social need for scientific research activities and application of multi-disciplinary science and technology.

“On the other hand, the school has the potential of a team of good researchers and, together with the cooperation with agencies and institutes, will actively contribute to turning the school into a research university,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Hoang Quan.
