US media reported that a fierce argument broke out between billionaire Elon Musk and longtime adviser Boris Epshteyn of the US President-elect over the selection of officials for the new administration.
Billionaire Elon Musk has quickly become an influential figure in President-elect Trump’s administration and has been following the leader like a shadow since his victory. He has donated at least $119 million to support Trump’s election. Axios reported on November 18 that Musk had clashed with Trump’s longtime adviser, lawyer Boris Epshteyn, over the appointment of future cabinet members.

The tensions became public last week, when Musk questioned whether Epshteyn had too much influence over the president-elect's choices, especially the attorney general position. Epshteyn pushed for former congressman Matt Gaetz for the position and William McGinley as White House counsel. Trump's two lawyers, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, were appointed deputy attorney general and No. 3 in the department, respectively. Musk also listed his preferred candidates, while Epshteyn responded strongly to the billionaire's skepticism about his choices, according to Axios . The tensions "exploded" on November 13 during a heated discussion at the dinner table in front of other guests at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. According to sources, Elon Musk accused Epshteyn of leaking information about the transition to the media, including personnel picks. Mr. Epshteyn said he did not know what the billionaire was talking about. Neither side would comment on the information. Mr. Boris Epshteyn is one of 18 people indicted by a grand jury in the state of Arizona for their involvement in an attempt to illegally select electors to vote for Mr. Trump in the 2020 election. Mr. Trump lost that year in Arizona to Mr. Biden. Mr. Epshteyn has pleaded not guilty and the case is scheduled to go to trial in January 2026.
