Hot weather increases the demand for cooling and refreshing drinks. Accordingly, products serving this need are increasingly diverse, meeting consumer tastes.
Juicy fruits are the preferred choice of consumers on hot days. |
Entering the hot season, the market for refreshing drinks and foods becomes more bustling and diverse. Supermarkets and grocery stores prioritize displaying many canned refreshment products such as fruit juices, soft drinks, and herbal teas. Meanwhile, sidewalk stalls and mobile carts also attract a large number of customers with drinks such as sugarcane juice, lime tea, juices, smoothies, etc., convenient and affordable.
In addition, coffee shops are constantly updating their menus, adding new cooling drinks to meet market demand. Mr. Doan Tran Phu Nguyen - owner of Be Xiu water shop (Ward 1, Vinh Long City), shared: “In the hot season, cooling drinks are always prioritized by customers. In particular, the current consumer trend is towards products of natural origin, helping to purify the body. To meet this demand, the shop has minimized the amount of sugar in the mix, taking advantage of the natural sweetness of fresh fruit and rock sugar, helping the drink to be both effective in cooling and good for health. The shop has updated more cooling drinks such as seaweed ginseng, chrysanthemum, sugar cane, coconut and lime juice, jasmine coconut, green Thai lime and has more than 15 types of juices from many types of fruits such as orange, guava, apple, carrot, watermelon ...”.
On this occasion, the online ordering service for cold drinks has also increased sharply. “The consumption of cold drinks can double or even triple compared to normal days, especially during peak hours between noon and evening. To meet the demand, we have implemented both self-delivery and cooperation with shipping units. At the same time, the staff has also been increased by 5-7 people to serve customers better,” said Mr. Nguyen.
Having just chopped a coconut to sell to customers, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh (Ward 3, Vinh Long City) said: "In the second half of last year, the price of dry coconuts was only about 6,000 VND/fruit, but now it is nearly 15,000 VND/fruit. The price of Siamese coconuts for drinking water has also nearly doubled because garden owners are hoarding goods, only wanting to sell dry coconuts, making fresh coconuts scarce, the price is not less than 10,000 VND/fruit but it is still difficult to find a source of goods". The hot weather has caused coconut consumption to increase sharply. According to Mr. Vinh, he sells 100-200 coconuts every day, double the previous price. Passersby like to drink small Siamese coconuts because the water is sweet, this type of coconut has little water so the retail price is 6,000 VND/fruit, 50,000 VND/10 coconuts.
Ms. Dao Ngoc Hue (Thien My commune, Tra On district) - a coconut buyer, said that the current price of fresh coconuts in the garden is at 100,000 VND/dozen (12 fruits), an increase of nearly 30,000 VND/dozen compared to before Tet; the retail price on the market fluctuates between 130,000-140,000 VND/dozen. In particular, the price of dried coconuts has skyrocketed to more than 150,000-160,000 VND/dozen. According to Ms. Hue, the high price of fresh and dried coconuts is mainly due to strong export demand, reducing domestic supply. In addition, coconut is not only a popular cooling drink but also an important ingredient in the food and cosmetics processing industry, contributing to the high price of coconuts.
If in the first months of the year, the price of lemons was only around 7,000-9,000 VND/kg, now it has increased to 17,000-19,000 VND/kg. With more than 4 hectares of purple-flower lemons, Mr. Ho Minh Tham (Tich Thien commune, Tra On district) said: "The price of lemons has increased again due to the off-season, the output has decreased while the market demand has increased. A hectare of land growing lemons, if well cared for, can achieve an average yield of over 1 ton. When the price of lemons increases, gardeners can make a profit of nearly ten million VND/hectare, whoever can process lemons for the off-season can sell them for an even higher price."
In addition to coconut water and fresh lemon, juicy fruits such as watermelon, grapefruit, cantaloupe, oranges, tangerines, etc. also sell well during hot days. According to many retailers, the purchasing power of these items has increased by about 20% compared to normal days. Currently, cantaloupe is 4,000-5,000 VND/kg; watermelon is 8,000-10,000 VND/kg, grapefruit (grade 1) is 45,000-50,000 VND/kg, cantaloupe is 75,000-80,000 VND/kg, Thai pineapple is 120,000 VND/kg...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Cuc, a fruit vendor at Vinh Long market, said: “The sunnier the weather, the more popular juicy fruits such as grapefruit, melon, dragon fruit, pineapple, etc. are. The supply of these fruits is abundant, so the selling price does not fluctuate much, making it easier for customers to choose to buy.”
The rising weather temperature has increased the demand for cooling foods. |
Hot weather makes the body tired and lose appetite quickly, so many housewives look for cool drinks, juices from fresh vegetables and fruits to supplement nutrition for their families. While choosing to buy fruit at the market, Ms. Thanh Huong (Ward 3, Vinh Long City) shared: “When it is hot, I often buy grapefruit and cantaloupe to eat or squeeze for juice to drink. If I have time, I will mix other drinks such as winter melon ginseng, coconut pennywort... to drink with filtered water to ensure the health of my family during the hot season.”
In the hot season, the demand for cooling drinks and fresh fruit is expected to continue to increase. To protect their health, consumers should choose quality food sources, combined with a healthy diet, to help the body adapt better to hot days.
In order to stimulate consumption, Nguyen Kim Shopping Center system has a discount program of 25-35% for blenders, orange juicers, multi-function blenders of Philips, Sharp, Panasonic brands... Cho Lon Furniture and Electrical Supermarket has a 50% discount on many water purifiers of Philips, Mutosi, Sunhouse brands... priced from only 1.59 million VND. |
