"At 7am yesterday morning, as I was getting ready to go to class, I received an email announcing my acceptance to Harvard University. After a few seconds of heart-stopping moments, I screamed with joy and hugged all my classmates," said Le Tue Chi.

Harvard University was the only school Tue Chi applied to this time. "I even mentally prepared myself to fail, so the result was beyond my imagination."

Le Tue Chi is a 12A2 student at Foreign Language High School.

Six years ago, Chi’s brother also made an impression when he was accepted into three Ivy League schools (the oldest and most elite private universities in the United States). Although her brother had such high achievements, Chi did not feel too much pressure.

During 3 years of studying at Foreign Language High School, she achieved a high average score of 9.6/10, ranking second in the class. Chi especially likes Math and Chemistry.

In addition to studying, the female student participates in dancing activities, designs for clubs and carries out many projects. Last August, Chi and her friends produced a short film project on the theme of war, the ticket sales were used for charity for children in Y Ty, Lao Cai. The female student also researched the cultural customs of the Muong people and ethnic minority costumes.

Chi used to be a quiet person, not liking to talk to friends around, but after becoming a student at the Foreign Language High School, she completely transformed. She became more open and active, becoming the leader of the foreign language club at school. This is also a club that the female student and her friends built and developed together over the past 3 years.

Sharing about her application essay to Harvard University, Tue Chi said the school requires 5 supplementary essays, one main essay and an interview.

The main essay topic required candidates to write about something they felt attached to, to express their own personality. Initially, Chi intended to write about her career as a makeup artist, but after many rewrites, Chi decided to talk about her experiences when taking photos, and about everyday moments in the places she had been.

“Taking photos of rural women, I get to talk and listen to their stories and life lessons. The more I travel and interact with them, the more useful life values each story brings me, making vivid examples for my essays to be more authentic,” the female student shared.

"I honestly don't think my application was that special because Harvard applications are very strong. Maybe I demonstrated a passion that is consistent and suitable for the school - a place that always wants and welcomes a diverse student community."

The female student of the Foreign Language School plans to fly to the US around July - August after finishing the 2024 high school graduation exam. In the future, Chi will try to study and combine it with doing the things she wants.

Ms. Do Thi Ngoc Chi, Vice Principal of Foreign Language High School, who was also Chi's homeroom teacher during the first two years of high school, was very impressed with her student's academic achievements and good qualities.

Chi always achieves high academic results, with a GPA of one or two in her class. In addition to being good at studying, Chi is also good at many other fields.

As the person who wrote the recommendation letter to Harvard University, Ms. Ngoc Chi commented: "Chi is a good student, confident and has many talents. I was impressed with Chi when she participated in playing Xuan Toc Do in the novel "So Do" by Vu Trong Phung. She surprised her teachers and friends with her deep awareness and quick approach to core issues."

In addition, with her creativity and meticulousness, Tue Chi is considered by her teachers and friends to be a very dedicated, simple person who does everything with all her heart. Perhaps it was these qualities that helped Chi convince the Harvard admissions board.

"I want to advise Chi to equip herself with soft skills, extracurricular skills... Especially, dare to dream big to conquer her own limits, conquering those dreams, success will come very close," the teacher said.
