On the afternoon of November 17, director Bach Long introduced the play Vietnamese History that he composed about the female general Bui Thi Xuan.

For artist Bach Long, staging a script for a Vietnamese historical opera is a difficult path, but he is not discouraged.

"I chose this script because the historical period in the story of Bui Thi Xuan was exploited by the Minh To classical opera troupe in the 1980s and 1990s with the play "Thanh kiem va nu tuong". Now, I have rewritten it, invested more in the music, composed the theme song combined with rap to create a youthful atmosphere in the staging" - artist Bach Long said.

In recent years, many cai luong theaters have begun to focus on the story of "purely Vietnamese" cai luong by recreating and staging new historical plays. Among them, many socialized theaters have been very enthusiastic and staged many good historical plays that are loved by the public, such as: "Empress Duong Van Nga", "Red cheeks and silver sword", "The female general's sword", "Rang ngoc Con Son", "Loyal minister", "The poem on the saddle", "The battle of Bach Dang Giang", "Loyal minister"...

Since moving to the Smile Theater in the grounds of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Culture Palace, the Bach Long Children's Group has made efforts to create many performances. The play "Spring on Thang Long Land" promises to bring many emotions to audiences who love reformed theater.

The unique highlight of the play is the appearance of Meritorious Artist Tu Suong (as Bui Thi Xuan) and Meritorious Artist Trinh Trinh (as Princess Ngoc Han).

According to many historical documents, the character Bui Thi Xuan was one of the Tay Son Five Royal Scholars, the wife of Thai Pho Tran Quang Dieu and an Admiral of the Tay Son Dynasty.

Director Bach Long has very charmingly fictionalized that in the early days when Bui Thi Xuan joined Tay Son, she was a girl pretending to be a man, in order to conceal her female identity in hopes of being accepted into the Tay Son ranks.

It was this performance that created the opportunity for Meritorious Artist Tu Suong to sublimate her emotions, face Tran Quang Dieu and Nguyen Hue, then become sworn brothers, vowing to protect the country and drive out the Qing invaders.

Bringing rap into traditional opera, artist Bach Long hopes to create youthfulness for Vietnamese historical plays.

With outstanding swordsmanship, archery, horse riding, elephant training skills and courage, the role of Meritorious Artist Tu Suong created many surprises for the audience.

Besides, when Princess Ngoc Han of Meritorious Artist Trinh Trinh appeared, it also brought many beautiful touches to the picture of ancient Cai Luong.

The play lasts for 6 scenes. The story spans the space of Bui Thi Xuan meeting Nguyen Hue, Tran Quang Dieu, then she is promoted to admiral, proving to be a great general.

"Spring returns to Thang Long land" is the beautiful love story of her and Tran Quang Dieu, brought together by Nguyen Hue himself as a couple, both of whom were talented generals of Tay Son.

Throughout the story, after each layer is pushed to a climax, the acting of Meritorious Artist Tu Suong and Meritorious Artist Trinh Trinh captivates the audience.

Both have been the support for the new recruits of Bach Long's children including: Kim Nhuan Phat, Bach Luan, Bach Tu My, Thanh Du, Ai Loan, Phu Yen, Thuy My, Tai Nhan...

Besides, artists Bach Long, Hoang Hai and Chi Bao also wholeheartedly supported the young actors.

The story "Spring on Thang Long land" highlights the example of chivalry of the ancients, aiming at today's generation - especially the young generation - to remind the steadfast, upright, loving and united hearts to fight against foreign invaders of our ancestors.

On the evening of November 18, the play will continue to be performed at the Smile Theater - Labor Culture Palace, Ho Chi Minh City.
