Speaking at the event, Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association - said that after 5 years of operation, the Association has achieved remarkable results, from organizing major film events to promoting international cooperation in cinema, associated with promoting the image of Vietnam, contributing to tourism development.
The most outstanding achievement of the first term was founding and coordinating with the People's Committee of Da Nang city to successfully organize the Da Nang Asian Film Festival.
This is also the only international film festival held annually in Vietnam and has had two editions that have exceeded expectations for a young film festival.
Also during its first term, the Association organized a series of important seminars and workshops, creating a forum for dialogue between Vietnamese and international filmmakers, artists, and experts.
The Association has also actively brought Vietnamese cinema to the world through major events such as the Busan International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, etc.
In addition, the Association has many activities contributing to the development of young talents and community initiatives, constantly expanding its strategic cooperation network with localities, creating a premise for sustainable development for the Vietnamese film and cultural industry.
Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son, standing member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, also said that in 5 years of operation, the Vietnam Association for the Promotion and Development of Cinema has achieved many miracles with the success of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival.
However, Mr. Son said that the film industry is facing many difficulties due to competition from foreign art products, causing audience tastes to change.
"Many people think that this is the entertainment industry, it's okay to have it or not. I think the film industry should save itself before waiting to be saved," said Mr. Son.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Son also shared "a sad news and a good news" with the Congress. The sad news is that the National Assembly has just approved the application of tax from 5% to 10% on the cultural sector, including cinema.
The good news is that the National Assembly has just passed a resolution on investment policy for the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the 2025-2035 period.
"I once said very bitterly that the most beautiful words in this life are for culture, but not much has been done for culture. This is the time to speak the truth, to do real work for culture and cinema. The time for artists to truly benefit," Mr. Bui Hoai Son frankly said.
