After efforts in good agriculture and market connection, the first OCOP agricultural products of Tuyen Quang province have been exported to the UK market.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province has just coordinated with the People's Committee of Yen Son district to organize a ceremony to export agricultural products to the UK market. Products that meet export standards include: Dried bananas of Chieu Yen clean banana cooperative; guava tea, male papaya flowers soaked in honey of Binh Minh organic agricultural products cooperative (in Yen Son district); green-heart black bean tea bags of Hong Phat organic cooperative (Chiem Hoa district); lemon syrup, kumquat syrup of Minh Thao agricultural products and medicinal herbs cooperative (Ham Yen district).
This is the first time that OCOP-starred agricultural products of Tuyen Quang province are qualified for export to the UK market - one of the most demanding markets in the world.
Mr. Nguyen Dai Thanh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province, said that in recent years, Tuyen Quang province has established areas of good agricultural practices (GAP) and organic production. Promoting these results, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, People's Committees of districts and cities in the province have coordinated with RYB Joint Stock Company to introduce and sell over 50 key agricultural products, specialties, and OCOP products of the province to markets in European countries (UK, France, Germany, etc.).
Through this activity, many agricultural products of the province have received good feedback from the European market. Initially, 6 agricultural products have been selected for export to the UK market. These products have been inspected, ensuring food safety standards, quality standards, packaging design, and labels according to European standards; all paperwork has been completed, and the quantity of goods is ready for export.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, Director of RYB Joint Stock Company, said that to be accepted by European customers, agricultural products must have food safety and hygiene certification.
The European market is willing to pay high prices for products, so when agricultural products enter the market, not only is the value increased but the brand of the product is also enhanced. This is a very effective way to develop the brand of agricultural products that Tuyen Quang province needs to aim for.
To do this, not only the role of the government and businesses is needed, but the awareness and responsibility of farmers directly involved in production in the growing areas is even more important. In the care process, farmers need to have a safe and honest production diary. Because if they do it carelessly, they will lose a great opportunity and the ones who suffer the most are the farmers.
Binh Minh Organic Agricultural Products Cooperative was established in 2020 in Nhung Dam village, Tu Quan commune, Yen Son district. To operate effectively, the cooperative has cooperated with a number of households in the commune to plan, delimit cultivation areas and select fruit trees and medicinal plants as strengths for development.
Currently, the cooperative has 4 hectares of certified growing areas with products that meet Vietnamese standards for organic agriculture, including plants such as male papaya, black xạ, cà gai leo and guava pear.
Mr. Do Thanh Kim, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said that thanks to the continuous efforts to practice good agricultural production, the Cooperative now has 4 products certified as achieving 3-star OCOP, including male papaya flowers soaked in honey, guava tea, black tea with Solanum procumbens and black tea with papaya flower ginseng. Of these, 2 products, male papaya flowers soaked in honey and guava tea, were exported to the UK market in October 2024. This is a great joy and pride for the Cooperative.
