Ms. Tran Thu Huong (36 years old, residing at the above address) said that the cassava root with "huge" weight and size was just dug up by her father, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai (63 years old) on the afternoon of September 20.
According to his daughter, Mr. Hai raises about 50 bamboo rats at his house in Phu Long village, Ky Phu commune.
To provide food for the animals, for the past 2 years, Mr. Hai has planted more than 3 sao of cassava in his home garden and some vacant land borrowed from people in the neighborhood.
The cassava root weighs 25kg and is about 1m long, dug up by Mr. Hai (Photo: Thu Huong).
On the afternoon of September 20, Mr. Hai went to a plot of land about 400m from his house to dig cassava as usual. While using a hoe to dig under the roots, he discovered a large cassava root.
Digging the cassava took longer than usual. After digging, he fixed the cassava on the motorbike seat and drove it home.
"When my father brought the cassava home, my children, grandchildren and many neighbors were very surprised. They had never seen a giant cassava, weighing 25kg and about 1m long. I took a picture of my father holding this cassava and posted it online. Everyone was amazed and left many happy comments," said Ms. Huong.
On the morning of September 21, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Kien Quyet, Chairman of Ky Phu Commune People's Committee, said that no one in the locality has ever dug up a record-sized cassava root like Mr. Hai's.
"Cassava is not a major crop in our locality. This plant is grown by some households like Mr. Hai to feed bamboo rats," Mr. Quyet informed.
