The 2024 University and College Admissions Consulting Day took place simultaneously at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) and Hanoi University of Technology on July 20. In addition to questions about how to register for admission, many questions about majors were raised.

The consultation day was organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), the General Department of Vocational Education (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs), the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), and Hanoi University of Technology with the support of Vingroup Corporation.

In case of early admission through early admission methods, you still have to register your wishes on the admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training from July 18 to before 5:00 p.m. on July 30.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy (Director of Department of Higher Education - Ministry of Education and Training)

You should choose the industry you really love.

According to Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Chief Specialist of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), on July 19, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) in the health training sector with practice certificates and teacher training sector. Candidates applying for these sectors can adjust their wishes accordingly.

After successfully registering, from July 31 to 5:00 p.m. on August 6, candidates must pay the admission fee according to the number of wishes registered for admission online on the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Due to the process of the banks, the payment of the examination fee must be divided into different regions and times. The Ministry of Education and Training will have detailed instructions for candidates in each locality and the time to pay the examination fee.

A candidate asked: "Environmental majors often have low admission scores. So does this major have potential and is it difficult to find a job after graduating?". Answering this question, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Thanh Hung - Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - said that environmental majors were once very "hot" with quite high admission scores. But currently, the admission scores for this major are relatively low compared to other majors.

One of the reasons is that those who study environmental science often work in government agencies after graduation. Meanwhile, the number of positions in government agencies is limited. Besides, environmental science is currently being trained in most universities. Many schools offer training but few people choose to study, so the standard score will of course be low.

"However, I believe that in the future, when private companies participate in environmental treatment issues, the situation will be different. In the future, our living environment will be especially important, so the demand for human resources in the environmental sector will be greater.

Therefore, you should not worry. The important thing you need to determine is whether you really love the environmental field or not. The fact that the industry has low benchmark scores does not mean that there is little demand for human resources in that industry. You should choose a career that you really love," Mr. Hung advised.

Combined admission questions

A parent in Ho Chi Minh City questioned the admission method combined with the preliminary selection of international English certificate IELTS of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

"Are candidates with IELTS 6.0, 7.0, 8.0... different when applying? Are the benchmark scores for medical majors for candidates with IELTS and candidates without this certificate the same or different?", this parent asked.

Regarding this, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khoi - Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy - said that currently, the medical industry has three main admission methods: considering high school graduation exam scores according to the B00 combination (math - chemistry - biology), considering admission combined with preliminary selection of international English certificates (IELTS from 6.0 or higher) and considering SAT scores.

"These three admission methods are independent of each other and have their own criteria. When the school considers, for example, whether a candidate has IELTS 6.0 or 8.0, that is not an admission criterion. As long as the candidate has an IELTS certificate of 6.0 or higher, it is fine.

The admission criteria is the B00 block score, the candidate with the higher score will be selected. Candidates are allowed to participate in multiple admission methods at the same time if they meet the prescribed conditions. The school will consider all methods, if all three methods are not met, the candidate will fail. With this year's admission registration method, candidates do not need to fill in information about the admission method," Mr. Khoi explained.

In addition, many parents also have questions about how to register for the combined admission method of the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) and provide additional information of candidates.

Responding to this, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang - Head of the school's training department - said: "Currently, many schools require candidates to provide additional information. If this is not done, candidates who are stuck with rigid conditions will have their applications rejected or lose priority in the admission process.

Specifically, the University of Science and Technology stipulates that in order to register for admission to the English-taught program, candidates must have an English certificate, which is a strict condition. As for the candidates' personal achievements, if submitted, they will be given priority points, but if not submitted, they will not be given points.

Mr. Ngo Tan Tai (Soc Trang) brought his younger brother to the event so that he could directly listen to the teachers' career guidance, although he had previously shared his university experience with his younger brother, to help him avoid confusion among many sources of information on social networks. He hopes that many of his brother's questions about the study program such as the number of credits, tuition fees, and qualifications required to graduate... will be thoroughly answered.

And the pair of students My Phung and Khanh Vy excitedly shared: "Before coming here, we had looked up information on websites about admissions consulting. But because we wanted to directly listen to the teachers' advice, we invited each other to come today."

26 Taiwanese universities participated

The 2024 University Admissions Day continues to see the participation of many universities from Taiwan (China). A total of 26 Taiwanese universities are participating, with strengths in many different fields. In 2024, the schools will also offer many valuable scholarships to Vietnamese students.

Ms. Hsiu-Hui Chang, head of the international relations department at Changhua Normal University, said that this year, the school is offering 50 scholarships for international students. "Vietnam has always been an important market that Taiwanese universities want to target because the students are talented, diligent and hardworking," Ms. Hsiu-Hui Chang said.
