Candidates worry about "losing their way", ask for advice on choosing a major when technology reigns supreme

(Dan Tri) - Difficulties such as technology gradually replacing human labor, affecting many professions, make many students worry about "losing their way" when choosing a future career.

Worry about choosing a major

At the "Career Guidance and Admissions Counseling Day 2025", held on March 16 in Hanoi , Than Manh Dung, a student at Viet Yen 1 High School in Bac Giang, asked that technology is currently developing and being widely applied in life, causing many industries to be negatively and positively affected. So how should candidates choose a major?

In addition, other difficulties also affect many professions, making candidates worried when choosing a future career.

Answering this question, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Principal of Phenikka University, said that technology increasingly supports life, but it does not necessarily cause widespread unemployment because it cannot completely replace humans.

Choosing a career depends largely on interests and abilities. The difference today is that it is highly interdisciplinary. For example, candidates who like traveling can learn more about languages, and those who like economics can learn AI...

So, technology does not replace us but is a very good support tool in life. In particular, technology can create new, creative professions. So candidates should not worry too much about many professions being "erased" but should calmly pursue them if they love a certain profession.

Also related to the policy of streamlining and merging, a female candidate worriedly asked: "Is it true that the Military University of Culture and Arts will be dissolved?"

According to Colonel Do Thanh Tam, Secretary of the Military Admissions Board (Ministry of National Defense), streamlining and merging is a major policy that many industries are implementing.

However, there is currently no information regarding the dissolution or cessation of operations of the Military University of Culture and Arts.

Besides, after 5 years of not enrolling in the civilian system, in 2025, the Military University of Culture and Arts will continue to enroll in this system.

For the military system, the school will enroll students with professional art training. The civilian system enrolls students with 4 levels: intermediate, college, university and postgraduate, so candidates can rest assured to register for admission if they like.

What should candidates do if they are "lost" in their choice?

A candidate asked: "I am choosing to study social subjects at high school level but I want to apply for group A01, for majors related to chemistry and biology. If I pass the exam, can I study majors that require knowledge of physics, chemistry, and biology and will I receive any support to supplement my knowledge?"

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, if candidates choose some majors that require basic knowledge of chemistry and biology but have not studied chemistry and biology at high school level, they will be arranged to study courses such as general biology and general chemistry before studying other majors.

However, when intending to register for any school, candidates also need to learn the specific regulations of each school to choose the right place for which they are qualified.

Also sharing about the new points in university admissions that are directly related to the rights of candidates, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that candidates using the admission method with high school transcripts should note that this year's new regulation will use the learning results of the entire 12th grade year (instead of just taking the first semester score). Therefore, compliance with the learning requirements of the high school program is very important to increase the chances of university admission.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung also said that currently in the high school education program, there are compulsory subjects and elective subjects, depending on interests and career orientation.

To increase the chances of admission for candidates and ensure fairness for candidates in different regions, the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the admission combinations. Therefore, in addition to the traditional admission combinations, training institutions can have new admission combinations.
