Last year, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation made many visits and worked with countries and territories around the world, aiming to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with partner countries, as well as contribute to strongly opening up markets for export goods...
Continuously expanding the market
2024 can be said to be a busy year for the Commander of the Industry and Trade sector in strongly opening up the market for export goods. In 2024, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation accompanied senior leaders and proactively carried out bilateral visits and contacts with important partner countries such as: Switzerland, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bulgaria, South Korea, China, Japan, Italy, Australia, Russian Federation, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hungary, Laos, New Zealand, Kazakhstan... to further strengthen economic and trade cooperation with partner countries.
It can be said that the bilateral visits and contacts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation have contributed to creating motivations and opening up many new and potential cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and partner countries. At the same time, it has strongly opened up the market for Vietnam's export goods, as well as attracted high-quality investment capital from the world's leading investment funds and corporations in the fields that Vietnam prioritizes for development.

Notably, in bilateral meetings and contacts with partners, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien always prioritizes the discussion of solutions to promote economic and trade cooperation and expand export markets for Vietnamese goods based on the spirit of "fastness" and "determination" to make the most of available advantages when "your country has strengths and Vietnam has needs".
Minister interested in Vietnamese fruits
Typically, during a working trip to Australia in early March 2024, at the Ministerial Dialogue on Trade between the two countries, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien proposed that Australia open its market to Vietnamese passion fruit, followed by grapefruit. Vietnam is also actively studying market access dossiers for plums and blueberries from this country.
Similarly, throughout 2024, working with partner ministries of countries: New Zealand, Bulgaria, Korea, Malaysia... Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also repeatedly suggested and called on countries to create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into their markets, thereby soon completing the growth targets set by the senior leaders of the two countries.
In particular, also in the spirit of "fast" and "resolute", continuing the solutions to remove difficulties and open the market in 2023, with the Chinese market, in 2024, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had many meetings with leaders of partner ministries at the Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as directly made business trips to China to discuss and exchange a series of solutions to promote trade and connect trade.
In January 2024, on the sidelines of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien met with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. Here, the two Ministers agreed to accelerate further facilitation of trade and investment between the two sides, especially for agricultural and aquatic products.
In the spirit of the two Ministers' strong direction, Vietnam has accelerated negotiations with China to open more export markets for green-skin pomelos, fresh coconuts, avocados, pineapples, star apples, lemons, melons, etc. As a result, from August 2024, more fresh coconuts, frozen durians and Vietnamese crocodiles have been officially exported to this market.
Open the big roads
The success in opening the market in 2024 cannot fail to mention the first free trade agreement (FTA) that Vietnam signed with an Arab country, which is CEPA - Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
CEPA has opened a big way for Vietnamese goods to penetrate deeper into the Middle East - Africa market. The signing of the CEPA Agreement after more than a year of negotiations has set a new milestone, demonstrating the proactiveness and leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in connecting international economic cooperation and expanding export markets.
According to experts, the CEPA Agreement has created a buzz in the Arabian Peninsula and has become a “strong source of inspiration” for Vietnam to step up negotiations and sign FTAs with many other countries around the world.

Not only strongly opening up trade cooperation and expanding markets for export goods, but during his working trips, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also suggested and called on investment partners to expand investment in the fields of new energy, renewable energy, nuclear energy, science and technology... full of potential in Vietnam.
It can be said that with efforts to negotiate market opening, synchronous solutions and the policy of proactive integration, up to now, Vietnam has signed 17 FTAs and is negotiating 2 FTAs, thereby having over 60 FTA partners, covering all continents with a total GDP accounting for nearly 90% of global GDP. Along with that, the "fast" and "resolute" direction in market opening work of the Commander of Industry and Trade has also contributed to helping Vietnam become one of the 40 economies with the largest GDP in the world, top 20 economies in terms of trade; top 15 economies in terms of FDI attraction, top 46 countries in the world in terms of innovation index.
At the same time, it greatly contributed to the country's import-export turnover in 2024. This is a very impressive result in Vietnam's international trade activities last year; the spectacular growth of import-export activities has greatly supported the economy.
