The Emperor and Empress are scheduled to attend a luncheon with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his wife at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, near Jakarta, on June 19, during which the Emperor will deliver a speech.

On the afternoon of June 17, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived in Indonesia, beginning a 7-day state visit.
This is the Emperor's first official visit abroad since his enthronement in 2019.
The visit takes place in the context of Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations.
Indonesia is currently the rotating ASEAN Chair in 2023. The visit was made at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo in August 2019.

Other events include laying flowers at the Kalibata Heroes Monument and visiting the ancient city of Yogyakarta in Central Java to attend a dinner hosted by the province's governor.
In addition, the Emperor and Empress will also visit a high-speed railway built with funding from Japan, visit a university that teaches the Japanese language, and meet the Japanese community living and working in Indonesia./.
