Nguyen Thanh Tung (28 years old) and Doan Minh Duy (29 years old) consider donating blood to save lives and devoting themselves to the community as a social responsibility that young people should have.
There are many experiences that close friends often want to have together such as shopping, traveling, having fun... As for Nguyen Thanh Tung and Doan Minh Duy, their friendship has become deeper and deeper when they join hands in humanitarian activities, notably donating blood.
Persistent sharing
Thanh Tung and Minh Duy both graduated from Saigon University with different majors. They are both energetic, enthusiastic and "addicted" to volunteer activities.
Thanh Tung donated blood for the first time at the end of 2015. At that time, he simply thought of responding to the movement to mobilize blood reserves for hospitals. When he received a text message informing him that his blood had been transfused to a patient, he was very happy.

Realizing that donating blood is a practical contribution to saving lives, Thanh Tung decided to make it a regular thing. To date, he has donated blood 29 times, each time 350 ml or 450 ml. He is waiting to reach the milestone of 30 blood donations in May 2025 (the occasion of the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh).
Since diligently donating blood, Tung (in white shirt) and many young people have also become more aware of living a healthy life and maintaining better and better health.
Thanh Tung's close friend Minh Duy has also donated blood 19 times. His first blood donation when he was a third-year student was a memorable one for him. Minh Duy enthusiastically encouraged his classmates to participate in the blood donation festival held at school. The "irony" was that at that time, he only weighed 44 kg while the minimum standard was 45 kg. He had to "lie" that he weighed enough to donate blood.
After that time, Minh Duy seriously improved his physical strength and weight. He felt his health getting better and better after each blood donation, his mentality was more comfortable and he loved life more.
Just like that, for the past few years, every time it was time to donate blood, this couple would "call" each other. Due to the nature of their work in different fields, they could not always donate together, but each of them was conscious of maintaining the "discipline" of regularly donating blood that they had set.
Thanh Tung still remembers his birthday in 2022 - the time when he was performing his military service. That morning, he was allowed by his unit to visit his family. Before going home, he took the opportunity to go straight to the Ho Chi Minh City Humanitarian Blood Donation Center. "With little time, I still managed to do something useful for society on the day I celebrate my new age, that is also a gift I give myself" - Thanh Tung expressed.
The more you give, the stronger you become.
Not only are they active blood donors, Thanh Tung and Minh Duy also do not hesitate to spread correct knowledge to friends around them, so that everyone is aware of the benefits of this.
When donating blood, in addition to contributing to saving lives, the donor himself is also consulted and has his health checked. "When donating blood, new blood cells will be created with better quality, perform better than old blood, increase resistance to disease, reduce the risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease..." - Minh Duy emphasized.
In 2023, Thanh Tung received a certificate of merit from the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for his 20 voluntary blood donations in the area. Minh Duy was also awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Nha Be District People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City - where he resides - for his outstanding achievements in actively participating in voluntary blood donations.
Not stopping there, these two young men are also passionate about volunteer activities. During their days as students at Saigon University, they enthusiastically contributed to the Green Summer volunteer campaign in Dak Nong province: organizing summer review classes, outdoor activities, playgrounds... for children; implementing youth projects, building volleyball courts for village cultural houses, painting schools... Next is the Green Sunday program, they participate in cleaning, planting trees, creating green areas in Nha Be area. When they have the opportunity, they give gifts to homeless people, paying attention to disadvantaged situations.
For Thanh Tung - Minh Duy, a brilliant youth does not necessarily come from the halo of flashy material values, bold decisions, the ability to own many "unique" things... or many other great things. A complete youth, according to them, is when we live to the fullest, know how to nurture our passions and have the ability to help those in need. We are even happier when we have close friends who share the same mindset and beautiful actions for the community.
