The 32nd SEA Games has officially ended for a month, but the impressive stories of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games have not faded. Sports fans probably still remember the incredible achievement of Nguyen Thi Oanh when she won 4 gold medals, the emotional moment of Cambodian athlete Bou Samnang crying in the rain or the overwhelming joy of Tran Mai Ngoc when she brought home the gold medal in mixed doubles table tennis for the Vietnamese team after 26 years of waiting.
The target audience of the Inspirational Characters at SEA Games 32 is all athletes, from any country, regardless of achievement. After more than 3 weeks of launching the contest, more than 20 outstanding athletes have been revealed. According to the results of the jury as well as the audience's votes, the 3 most deserving athletes are Tran Mai Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Oanh and Bou Samnang (Cambodia).

Accordingly, on the afternoon of June 18, the award ceremony of the SEA Games 32 Inspiration program organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper took place in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Here, Nguyen Thi Oanh had the opportunity to reunite with her Cambodian colleague Bou Samnang.
The golden girl of Vietnamese athletics and Bou Samnang once competed together in the 5,000m race at the 32nd SEA Games. Nguyen Thi Oanh won the gold medal, while the runner from the host country Cambodia finished last, when all the other athletes had left the track and gone to rest.
However, while Nguyen Thi Oanh was praised by international media for winning two consecutive gold medals in just 30 minutes in the 1,500m and then the 3,000m steeplechase, Bou Samnang, although not winning any medals, is equally famous.

Although the Cambodian girl had no chance to compete, she did not give up and was determined to complete the test. The moment Bou Samnang ran alone and cried in the rain before reaching the finish line touched the hearts of many fans. After that, she reluctantly became famous all over the world with her strong will. Bou Samnang appeared in the most prestigious newspaper in the United States - The New York Times (with a video attracting millions of views), on the homepage of the World Olympic Committee... and was loved by the Cambodian people.
Bou Samnang shared a meaningful message: "Never give up, even if you go slowly, you will still reach your destination."
