Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Thi Huyen compete

The Vietnamese sports delegation competed in 9 sports including archery, canoe sprint, chess, weightlifting, athletics, sepak takraw, badminton, kurash and roller sports. Sepak takraw is one of the key sports with a high chance of winning a gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation, but the men's and women's teams still competed in the group stage.

In athletics, attention is on Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Thi Huyen, although the two Vietnamese athletes face very difficult challenges in the 3,000m steeplechase and 400m hurdles. At the previous Asian Games, Vietnam’s representative Quach Thi Lan won a silver medal in the 400m hurdles (after which the first-place athlete was stripped of her medal), but she will not participate in this Games due to a suspension.

Nguyen Thi Huyen will compete in the 400m hurdles qualifying round.
