Mr. Nguyen Van Thong's family in Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district, Kien Giang province, with more than 20 years of experience growing mangoes, is taking care of 40 Hoa Loc mango trees in preparation for this year's Tet crop.

With this area, Mr. Thong has invested more than 20 million VND/ha. Thanks to favorable weather, the Tet mango crop is expected to have a high yield.

He said: “From December 23 to 29, traders will come to buy. Currently, the price of mango is about 70,000 VND/kg, but during Tet it usually decreases because the supply from neighboring regions such as Hau Giang increases sharply. Hopefully, the price will not fluctuate much to achieve good profits.”

Similarly, Mr. Ho Quang Be's family in Tho Son commune also looks forward to the Tet mango season to have a prosperous Tet. With two mango gardens with a total area of over 5 hectares, Mr. Be's family harvests in two batches on December 10 and December 23.

Currently, the price of Hoa Loc mango ranges from 50,000 to 70,000 VND/kg, expected to be higher than previous years. Thanks to stable output and favorable prices, gardeners expect a successful crop, contributing to good income during Tet.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien, director of GAP Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative, Cho Moi district, An Giang province, shared that mango farmers are currently very excited because mango prices have increased compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the price of small-seeded mangoes reached VND34,000/kg, an increase of VND8,000/kg, while that of green-skinned elephant mangoes was VND32,000/kg, an increase of VND12,000/kg. With an area of over 200 hectares growing small-seeded mangoes and green-skinned elephant mangoes, farmers can earn a profit of more than 30% after deducting costs.

“In 2024, we exported more than 250 tons of VietGAP-certified mangoes to markets such as the US, Australia, South Korea and New Zealand. The increase in mango prices made people very happy.

With the current mango price, farmers can earn from 150 to 200 million VND/ha, with a profit after expenses of about 50%. This mango crop will help people have a prosperous Tet holiday," he said.

Dien grapefruit for Tet in the South, shining bright on the streets

In recent days, on Mai Chi Tho Street (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), long rows of Dien grapefruit trees decorated for Tet with bright yellow fruits have attracted the attention of many passersby.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Lu, owner of Lu Nguyen bonsai garden, said that this year he transported more than 300 Dien grapefruit trees from Hung Yen to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Vinh to serve the Tet market. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, he sold more than 100 pots with prices ranging from 8 million VND to more than 50 million VND per tree, depending on size and shape. Some perennial trees, bearing hundreds of bright yellow fruits, cost up to 70 - 90 million VND per tree.

Besides, Mr. Minh also brought more than 80 Dien grapefruit trees from Hung Yen to Ho Chi Minh City, selling them for prices from 7 million VND to 40 million VND/tree.

To create more of a Tet atmosphere, Mr. Minh decorated the tree with red bows and wishes. Despite the high cost of care, he agreed to reduce the price by 10-15% compared to last year to attract buyers.

“High-priced trees are mainly rented or purchased by business customers, but the number of customers is still not up to expectations,” Mr. Minh shared.

According to gardeners, the number of trees rented or purchased is currently only about 15-20% of the supply. However, they expect that from December 20 onwards, demand will increase sharply, helping to create a more vibrant shopping atmosphere.
