The organizers of the Shining Vietnamese Willpower program awarded certificates of merit to outstanding disabled people of 2023.
Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa and Ha Bich Hao are examples of disabled youth honored at the Shining Vietnamese Willpower program.
Despite their hardships, they have always silently contributed to helping other less fortunate people integrate and receive love from the community.
This is also the big message that the program "Shining Vietnamese willpower" organized by the cooperation between TCP Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union wants to convey.
This year, the program is expected to honor 38 outstanding young people with the desire to inspire millions of disabled young people in Vietnam.
Using love of art to inspire the younger generation
Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa's first children's story "My sister's hands, her brother's hands" tells the story of a little girl with a disability in her hands, but she is always optimistic in finding a way to love her hands.
The story is also a part of her life, after polio at the age of two left her entire right hand and 60% of her left hand unable to function.
After completing her Economics degree, she returned to her hometown in Ninh Thuan, working as an English teacher and writing teacher for children, while diligently publishing literary works, from novels to short stories, and winning many different awards from the Writers' Association, the Army Literature and Arts magazine, etc.
Because of problems with her hands and spine, many of her works were composed while she had to write lying down.

"After becoming one of Forbes magazine's '20 Inspiring Vietnamese Women of 2021', I have the opportunity to share more. Many friends shared that their families did not agree to pursue a literary career."
Seeing herself in that story, she was determined to open a creative reading and writing class in her hometown. The class, which was only held during the summer, is now held more regularly, even with collaborators coming on weekends to read books with the children.
In 2023, when participating in the program "Ho Chi Minh - Journey of Aspiration", she was honored to meet and report her achievements to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Central Party Office.
When nominated at the program, she was moved and wanted to spread her story more widely, "so that you know that I also faced difficulties but always tried to study and live with passion, so I hope you also have the strength to overcome all difficulties like that".
Pursuing psychology and education to nurture happiness for special children
After a medical incident, from the age of 6 months, Ms. Hao could not hear or see in one ear and right eye.
Taking that as motivation, she actively coordinates projects of the non-profit organization on community health "Helping Viet Nam Children", connecting and coordinating free examination and surgery programs for disabled children in difficult circumstances in provinces and cities.
Ha Bich Hao has also implemented and maintained the "Tet Tron" program for disadvantaged children and lonely elderly people in Yen Khanh commune from 2017 to present.
With a master's degree in Psychology, she understands the importance of creating a healthy, safe educational environment. That's why Ms. Hao is most proud of her Happy Seedlings class and the Seedlings Fund, her inspiring educational projects.
Mam Hanh Phuc is a nearly free class for special children, teaching language and behavior to autistic children... And Mam Fund, a fund that cares for the education of disabled and orphaned children, has been a long journey since 2017.

"Since I was little, I was bullied at school because of my different appearance. So when I created the class, I wanted the kids to be happy.
The moment I was nominated as one of the faces of the program 'Shining Vietnamese Willpower', I deeply understood that every little thing I do has great meaning."
"My only wish is to share my story with more people, so that more people know about the children's situation" - Ms. Hao shared.
As for Kim Hoa, she hopes that through the program, her story will reach many people in similar situations and add to the belief that "Where there's a will, there's a way. Let difficulties become the driving force that leads you to success."
The program's attention and support is not only a great source of encouragement for young people with strong will but also contributes to spreading the message in the social community.
The program "Shining Vietnamese Willpower" is an annual event organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union in collaboration with TCP Vietnam Company. 2024 marks the 5-year milestone of cooperation between the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union and TCP Vietnam.
The program aims to find and honor exemplary disabled youth who are resilient, overcome adversity and actively contribute to community development; contribute to fostering a good life ideal for young people, and promote the advancement of Vietnamese youth.
At the same time, the program also hopes to create a spread and interest, calling on the social community to continue to support and accompany Vietnamese youth with disabilities and find suitable and sustainable models to support special youth to integrate into the community, confidently pursue their dreams and aspirations.
