After having a bladder catheter inserted, nearly 1,000 ml of urine was released. Mr. V felt relieved as if he had just lifted a burden after many hours of not being able to urinate on his own.

However, when the bladder has 300-400ml of urine, there is a feeling of needing to urinate. This patient has an enlarged prostate (P = 65g), this is a large tumor that compresses and narrows the bladder urethra, leading to complete urinary retention.
Patients admitted to the hospital with urine output of up to ~1,000ml will cause the bladder to overstretch, possibly causing bladder rupture, leaving many dangerous complications. Therefore, doctors had to quickly place a bladder catheter to release urine.
With the consent of the patient's family, on March 13, 2025, doctors performed endoscopic surgery to remove prostate hypertrophy through the urethra. The surgery was successful. The patient's bladder catheter has now been removed and he can urinate on his own.
Who is at risk for prostate enlargement?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate adenoma, is a benign disease that can be completely cured and does not lead to cancer.

Signs of prostate enlargement

Prostate enlargement can be treated with medication when the size is small. However, drug treatment only reduces symptoms, there is no scientific evidence of reducing tumor size.
With large prostate enlargement, failed medical treatment requires surgical intervention such as open prostatectomy, endoscopic transurethral resection, laser surgery... These methods have been applied by Cam Khe District Medical Center to treat patients with prostate enlargement.
