People's Artist Pham Ngoc Khoi and People's Artist Trung Hieu sit in the "hot seat" of the 2025 National Open Piano Competition

This is the second time the National Open Piano Competition has been held, with the support of the Department of Grassroots Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). The Organizing Committee expects that the 2025 season will attract about 2,000 contestants nationwide.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Chairman of the Vietnam Institute for Educational and Cultural Development, Head of the Competition Organizing Committee, said that following the success of season 1 in 2024, the National Open Piano Competition season 2 was held.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, compared to the first season, in addition to the familiar competition boards, the Organizing Committee decided to open an additional Artist board for contestants who won awards in season 1, as well as students studying professional piano. In order to give more contestants the opportunity to show their talents directly on stage, the Organizing Committee will take more contestants to the semi-finals than season 1.

"To create conditions for many contestants to have the opportunity to show their talents directly on stage, we decided to take more contestants to the Semi-finals than season 1. In addition, at the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee will coordinate with domestic and foreign educational organizations to organize many small concerts, talk shows, international music summer camps... so that contestants have the opportunity to exchange, learn and develop their talents," Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan shared.

People's Artist Trung Hieu is a guest judge of the competition.

The 2025 National Open Piano Competition for ages 5-19, held nationwide, is divided into 10 age groups with 3 categories: Freestyle, Classic, Artist.

Candidates will go through 3 rounds. The Talent Search Round accepts online applications from January 1 to January 30, 2025. The Semi-final Round - Shining Round, is organized in 3 regions: Southern region at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music (March 1 and 2, 2025), Central region at Hue Academy of Music (March 8 and 9, 2025), Northern region at Vietnam National Academy of Music (March 15 and 16, 2025).

The final round and gala will take place on March 29 and 30, 2025 at the Grand Concert Hall, Vietnam National Academy of Music.

The jury of the competition includes: Dr. Dao Trong Tuyen, Head of Piano Department - Vietnam National Academy of Music; People's Artist Pham Ngoc Khoi - Head of Theory, Composition, Conducting Department, Vietnam National Academy of Music (Vice President of Vietnam Musicians Association); Artist Minh Le - Head of Piano Department, Hanoi College of Art;

Dr. Dang Ngoc Giang Quan, Lecturer of Piano and Master's training at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music; Dr. Eun Young Joo - Lecturer of Piano and Master's training at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and Classical Piano at Van Lang University; Master Truong Ngoc Chien - Head of Piano Department, Hue Conservatory of Music; Artist Tran Viet Bao - Lecturer of Piano at Vietnam National Academy of Music; People's Artist Trung Hieu - Director of Hanoi Drama Theater, Guest judge.
