How to make children have a meaningful summer without being glued to the TV, phones... is always a difficult problem. Taking children to visit museums, relics, cultural works... is chosen by many parents this summer.
Primary school students visit Can Tho City Museum.
Can Tho City Museum in June has many "young" visitors. If during the school year, the children visiting the museum are mostly students from schools in the city, in the summer, they are mostly tourists or families. Nguyen Quoc Anh is a student at Doan Thi Diem Secondary School (Hong Dan District, Bac Lieu Province), who went to Can Tho to visit his sister who is in college during the summer. Quoc Anh wanted his sister to take him to visit Can Tho City Museum, Ong Pagoda, Binh Thuy Communal House and Can Tho Prison because he had read about it in previous introductions. Quoc Anh said: "The museum has a lot of artifacts, I really like it. I have heard many interesting historical stories". Mr. Nguyen Huu Kha and his wife (from Ba Ria City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) also chose to visit Can Tho Museum during their trip with their two children. Mr. Kha shared: “I think these attractions are very necessary and meaningful. Not only do I understand more about Can Tho, my family also learns a lot of new historical knowledge and strengthens our relationship.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Oanh (Education - Exhibition Department, Can Tho City Museum) said: In the summer, most of the visitors to the museum are families, visitors and the exhibition area about the culture, country and people of Can Tho attracts a lot of attention from visitors. For young visitors, the tour guides always pay attention to expressing themselves simply but with enough meaning, easy to understand, easy to remember and create intimacy. Ms. Oanh said there was a boy in grade 4, Ngo Quyen Primary School (Ninh Kieu District), who spent the whole morning exploring, looking and taking notes on the artifacts he liked. The boy's mother said that although the boy had a talent for technology, he also loved history. Whenever he had free time, he asked his mother to take him to visit museums and relics.
This summer, Can Tho City Museum also coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of many wards to carry out heritage education activities in the summer program. These activities were agreed and supported by parents. Currently, the An Thoi Ward Youth Union (Binh Thuy District), Thoi Binh Ward Youth Union (Ninh Kieu District), Hung Phu Ward Youth Union (Cai Rang District)... have implemented the plan. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Kiet, Secretary of An Thoi Ward Youth Union, said: "We invited Can Tho City Museum staff to present knowledge about the culture, land, and people of Can Tho during the summer activities. Through explanations, games... the children consolidate their knowledge."
Ms. Nguyen Thi My, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Museum, said: In addition to focusing on serving visitors to the Museum, Hung Kings Temple of Can Tho City, Can Tho City Prison, Can Tho City Museum also gives small gifts to children visiting these places in June. On the occasion of the Tan Loc Fruit Garden Festival in Thot Not District, the Museum also has a program to guide children to visit Tan Loc Dong Communal House Relic, learn about communal house culture, orchards and experience calligraphy. At the Hung Kings Museum and Temple of Can Tho City, children can also participate in knowledge games on interactive screens. Can Tho City Prison Relic has a cinema room, introducing films about the relic, historical figures... Attaching QR codes to artifacts and images at Hung Kings Temple of Can Tho City also creates excitement for visitors.
In the 2022-2023 school year, Can Tho City Museum signed a cooperation plan with 31 schools in all 9 districts. The activities (or sending articles to schools) attracted 110,220 teachers and students to attend, with contents such as traditional education; propaganda about national holidays and anniversaries; famous people; local cultural heritage...
From August 20, 2022 to May 31, 2023, Can Tho City Museum welcomed 31,316 visitors, including 94 schools (111 groups) in the city, with over 10,000 teachers and students.
