(CTO) - On the afternoon of July 26, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City held a meeting with the Can Tho Sports Delegation to attend the 9th Mekong Delta Sports Festival - Hau Giang in 2023.

Participating in the Mekong Delta Sports Festival this year, the Can Tho Sports Delegation has 365 members, including 10 delegation leaders, 59 coaches and 296 athletes. The Can Tho Sports Delegation participates in 23 sports including beach volleyball, Taekwondo, Boxing, Bodybuilding, Kickboxing, Traditional Martial Arts, Canoeing, Football, Judo, Weightlifting, Tennis, Chess, Athletics, Badminton, Cross Country, Table Tennis, Jujitsu, Kurash, Billards, Vovinam, Swimming, Karate, Basketball. The target of the Can Tho Sports Delegation is to achieve 54 Gold Medals, 21 Silver Medals, 35 Bronze Medals, striving to be in the top 3 of the delegation.

The 9th Mekong Delta Sports Festival in 2023, hosted by Hau Giang province, held its opening ceremony on July 15. This year's festival gathered more than 2,200 athletes competing in 27 sports, of which the earliest competition was beach volleyball, organized by Kien Giang province from July 11 to 13. At the end of the beach volleyball event, Can Tho athletes won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, ranking first in the delegation. The remaining sports took place in August, September and October, with basketball being the final competition, taking place on October 18 in Hau Giang.

Can Tho was authorized by the Organizing Committee of the Congress to host two events: football and Jujitsu.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that in order to achieve the set targets, athletes need to focus, be confident, strive to surpass themselves, and seriously follow the professional instructions of the coach. The delegation leaders, coaches and caregivers pay attention and take the best care of the athletes during the competition at the Games.
